Loved your post! I wish people would get past Deepika's face/voice and actually listen to the bloody message of the video 😳 There's 98 other women there. Why not focus on them instead? Do we really give celebrities so much importance that they define how we perceive public service announcements?

Yes it was the rapist's choice and therefore he must take responsibility for that choice and face the punishment. And yes, freedom of speech also comes with the freedom to take the consequences. To quote Terry Pratchett, it is the freedom upon which all other freedoms are based. People willfully ignore that part. Of course, you are fee to speak your mind, but you must face the repercussions of the choices you make. The "My choice" video is defending women's right to have a choice at all, to have some agency. You don't choose for her, let her make her own choices, good and bad, and let her face the consequnces of those choices. Like a man would.

I told you women and minorities pick up victim card easily. 😆

Aamir's personal life, career and whole family was bashed when some had issues with SMJ. But never saw anyone cry over sexism.

He or his fans were honourable enough to not use minority card and brush off criticism as backlash against a Muslim. His team instead learnt from feedback and incorporated changes in next season of SMJ.

Never saw AB fans play victim when he got bashed for UP mein dum hai video. No cries for sexism or ageism then.

Exactly my thoughts. It was simply about women having freedom--choosing to live their life how they desire.

If YOU did not see reactions against men then it's YOUR selective attention. And based on that selective perception you CANNOT generalise an entire country and it's mentality.

Media has all sorts of labels for each country. I wonder who correlates things to YT comments to generalise a country!

If you consider Deepika a speck in sea of humanity then why not keep things limited to response to a speck? Why generalise an entire country?

Debate if you know all sides. Instead of saying things like heroine got more hate than Shakti Kapoor did for casting couch! Outlandish to say the least.

Like I said, I don't give two hoots about celebrities. I don't follow Bollywood nor do I plan to.

I pick up a victim card because I am a victim. I was sexually assaulted in broad daylight last summer in India, and I think I have every right to speak about the sexism that puts women in situations like mine.

You don't know anything about me, feminism or what so many of us stand for. I voiced my support on the "man's choice" video as strongly as I did on Deepika's. Took time to comment about atrocities against men and the sexism they face in India as well.

I, personally, didn't hear a single thing about Aamir Khan or his "manhood" being bashed. I only heard about his nobility and good grace to help the needy. Maybe there was criticism, but the good ALWAYS outshone the negative. Granted, you seem to have much more time on your hands to follow the latest Bollywood news. I don't have that freedom. I read the headlines and I move along.

Anyways, happy life to you. You seem to lead a very comfortable life. I pray you are never in situations like the less fortunate are.

I don't generalize India by YT comments. I have an Indian father, brother and grandfather. I'm not that shallow.

But YT comments sure as hell grind the world's perception of us into stone. And it only hurts men.

They're the one being denied international internships and opportunities. They're the ones being rejected by other women. They're the ones getting false rape allegations pinned against them, because it just that easy to believe them.

In a recent study, South Asian men were the LEAST likely to get a response from a female on any dating site. I wonder why? Maybe it's because of things like these YT comments, which make it very easy to generalize all Indian men as sexist assholes.

Are you still going to comment or make right on that "choice to stop arguing" here? 😆

Just an example.. this HR's ad video for HRX brand.. but it also has men empowerment in it.

This is how u make a video. with a punchline like "U have to defeat "DEFEAT". It can apply to all men, women and kids and oldies. Something positive.

Hahaha this is like that freedom of expression cycle all over again!
