Oh Dear Deepika, Go Back To What You're Really Good At And Spare Us The Hypocrisy

A fan writes an open letter to Deepika Padukone.

Ms. Padukone,

Thanks to Jimmy Wales, here is what feminism truly means;

The advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.

First of all congratulations to you for you have found the sixth gear to championing women's right, empowerment et al. And that is exactly where my day's dose of sarcasm ends. Now that the bonhomie has crumbled, let me get to the crux of the matter.

A recent article on your cleavage created some unwanted furor. Why the hypocrisy? I understand it is your prerogative to do what you want or show what you want. But please don't play the women's right, dignity, objectification card here to your convenience. No ma'am. You were paid handsomely for the kingfisher calendar and numerous magazine photoshoots and you owe your fame to that. Can't take that away from you. By the way, these shoots were far more revealing than the TOI picture.

Didn't the up-skirt video grab of your derriere in Dum Maaro Dum cringe you enough? Or didn't the innuendos in Chandni Chowk to China leave a bad taste? I know what TOI did wasn't great either, for they are the one's tearing into the law and order situation whenever a woman is raped. And then they do this. So don't get me wrong, I'm more of a feminist than you are. For sure.

Oh wait, wasn't it you sitting right in the first row at the AIB Roast? Good job contributing to the charity. Accept my greatest salute madame. A quick poser. But didn't they mention something about someone masturbating to Farida Jalal and didn't the mention of Simi Garewal's dildo disturb you? Wasn't that objectification? But instead of a sullen face, all I saw were giggles and guffaws. So I'm guessing it's a thing. For you, famous rich people are forgiven for everything. Normal people like us, a little abnormal people like TOI and some orthodox people in the society are too much to handle for you.

Anyway, first comes first. Although this comes late, but please don't go around stating the gross injustice meted out to women ever again. Because firstly, you haven't a clue about the world if you're fighting about such menial things in the society when there's so much more to raise your voice against. Secondly, you only stood up when your body was invaded, at other times you were busy laughing at juvenile humor.

What kind of an attitude is that dear woman?

But no, you just wouldn't learn. I only wish this letter of mine had reached you earlier and you hadn't gone on an overdrive, committing another folly. Much unlike the choice of your movies, you made a mistake. Vogues empowerment video. Aesthetically shot, must say. But let me ask you and all the women who are getting goosebumps' while watching this video "

If a man feels or says that it is no one's business as to who he sleeps with or what he does out of wedlock, how would you and your brigade react? Isn't it a man's choice too? Then why label him a dog who is chasing skirts?

If infidelity among women is immaterial, it shouldn't be a cause of concern among men either. You unleashed Times of India on Ranbir's infidelity and cited that as a reason for the split. What gave you the right to say you wanted to gift the man a pack of condoms or even called him a Casanova? It was his CHOICE to sleep with whoever he wanted to. Isn't it? Didn't you invade his privacy or his choice then? Even if it was your personal matter, keep it personal I'd suggest.

The man, however infidel, was dignified in his silence. Didn't speak a word. Zilch. He should be called brave and empowered', not you. Just because you're a woman?

Please do us a favor, stop this crusade and do something which you are good at. I have absolutely nothing against women's rights, it is just sad to see those who are supposedly championing the cause are completely side tracking the core issue.

Championing a cause requires dedication and not just going on twitter, getting interviewed by Barkha Dutt or appearing in Homi Adjania's video. It needs way more than that. For starters, it needs honesty and sincerity, not hypocrisy.

In a country where, fundamental rights being invaded of not just women, all you think about is the right to sleep with a person of your choice. Fight for being treated equally not differently. Myopic!

He was right about honesty snd sincerity part. If deepika was truly sincere about women empowerment and feminism she should have atlest gone through the script atlest once and suggested her opinion on it and not blurt it out just like some dumb models in add film.

THIS...

Even if Ranbir were to be guilty, he gets a brownie point here for not stopping to her level and shame her in reciprocation. And isn't she guilty of infedility herself ? Many gossip columns have spoken of her "dog" days. Dislike how convenient it is these days to use the women card.

It's rather sad and frustrating to see the society getting more and more lop sided. So women are treated unfairly, so let's turn the circle around and do the same ? How about instead try and bring balance than having to shame men in general when majority are decent beings who are/shall be better halves of many. SMH at the latest trend.
