really?? that doesn't make sense...I always thought that the female leads were the superstars in TVLand😆

She is right. There are conflicting articles, but this is from 2013.

exactly...but then in the real world most of the jobs depend on ur skills/education...Its like if someone is more educated/experienced/better skills than me...they will get promoted and a better payscale...right ...and we can't complain about that...In BW...the starpower is what skillset would be in other regular jobs...the more the star power...the more money u make...I hope I made sense😆

Then how do you explain wage gap studies that show women with exact same qualifications and job performance reviews making less than their male counterparts? How do you explain situations that show highly qualified, high performing women overlooked for promotions in comparison to their more mediocre male counterparts?

Yes "star power" is qualification and experience in cinema.

That doesn't explain a jarring wage gap where newcomer males make more than established females. They have zero experience and star power.

I'd argue that in Bang Bang Katrina's star power was equivalent to Hrithik because she has a reputation of consistently being in high grossing films while Hrithik's star was waning.

Some movies run on "couples" rather than individual stars. Ranveer-DP, SRK-Kajol. These movies should have equal pay for both stars.

Bi ji Ram Kapoor, Ronit Roy and Shivaji Saatam are paid highest among TV. They are paid 125000/- per day.

@blue-ice : The difference might not be much but why should there be a difference at all in the first place? This is how messed up we are. There is discrimination between the newbies itself, where no body has any star-power. Demand-supply theory or the skills argument doesn't even hold here.
This is how it all starts.

Also, while we are at it. Why do male stars attract more audience? Because their roles are relatively better written, movie revolves around them, they are the protaganists in true sense while female leads are reduced to naach-gaana. This further results in increasing star-power of the male leads.

SRK or Salman getting paid more than Deepika or Katrina or Ranbir getting paid more than a Sonam or Anushka is justified
But Ranbir getting paid triple or even more than Deepika and Katrina isnt
Leave alone a Ranveer or Shahid

Discrimination is also one of the reasons why these 'heroes' enjoy such enormous star-power. They are portrayed hero-like, most of the times...are given Demi-God-ish stature in movies. They are indirectly shown as some super heroes, so of course audience will be smitten by all the jazz and they start showering so much love...in how many movies do we see such strong female characters?

@Blue Ice

See this - http://www.filmibeat.com/television/news/2014/top-10-highest-paid-television-actors-india-153639-153640-153643.html

Ram and Ronit get over 1 lakh. Sakshi manages 70K.

Even in lists where Sakshi's pay is mentioned as 1 lakh there also Ram and Ronit earn more - 1.25-1.5 lakh.

Men on TV get paid more and readily. It took many years and many top rated, long running shows for Sakshi to reach close to 1 lakh whereas Mohit Raina already draws 1 lakh with one successful show.

Women don't get paid high this readily as men do even on a female dominated medium like TV.

Working conditions for women are also bad. Apparently Smriti Irani was made to shoot for Kyunki till last month of her pregnancy, and no one was there to take her to hospital when she miscarried, she had to take a cycle rickshaw herself to get to hospital. She narrated this experience on TV in an interview.

Pathetic to say the least.

So it's same everywhere and every field eh ? Jolie makes more or on par with the dudes ? I guess her fame and success speaks more than the equality per se...
