-not sure as yet, according to BOI it is a flop, according to rediff it is an average, according to KOIMOI it has managed to make profit, and last week DNA said that a few more crores and the movie can be declared a hit! Waiting for more info, I hope DNA/TOI/Financial Express/ India Today or Panaroma studios reports on it! As of now I am predicting that it is an average! The movie so far has managed to make 18-24 crores, and reportedly the budget of the movie was 18-25 crores! The movie received mixed reviews, Karan got amazing amount of praise from critics such as komal nahta, indiatv, bollywoodhungama, filmfare, however a few reviews on him were not so good

Alone movie review

Audience's one of the favourite genres horror' is here with Alone which is set to deliver some thrills and chills. So is it scary enough? Let's find it out.

Bhushan Patel who DIRECTED Ragini MMS 2 and 1920: Evil Returns has once again donned director's hat for Alone with the most apt actress Bipasha Basu in the lead. Yes, she is the one who doesn't feel like giving her nod to any other genre, except Humshakals, which turned out to be a disaster.

Stars- Bipasha Basu, Karan Singh Grover
Director- Bhushan Patel
Music Director- Ankit Tiwari, Mithoon

Nevertheless, Bipasha Basu has excelled in this horror drama like no one. Alone is a classified piece of work by director who brings terrifying elements to life, which was unintentionally mocked in last few flicks of this category.

karan bipasha in alone

However, the movie isn't an out-an-out horror drama as one would be expecting it to be, yet it has its SHARE of genuine thrills, which largely work in its favour.

Anjana and Sanjana PLAYED by Bipasha Basu) are twin sisters conjoined since their birth. They love each other; however Sanjana is the one who mostly pampers Anjana.

Love strikes when Kabir (Karan Singh Grover) ENTERS their life and while both the sisters are attracted towards him, Kabir responds to Sanjana. As a result they decide to separate through an operation despite the promise that had made of never separating from each other. But as the destiny had in, Anjana dies during the operation while Sanjana survives.

Cut to NEXT scene few years later, Sanjana is leading a wonderful life with Kabir but fortunes bring them back to the place where Sanjana lived with her late sister Anjana. As expected things turn dreadful for Sanjana who is being constantly followed by her twin-sister's ghost.

bipasha basu alone stills

Has Anjana's ghost come back to torment her alive sister? Is there something, which Sanjana is hiding? Is there something more than not keeping a promise for which Anjana's ghost is taking revenge? Find out in Alone, which is predictable but this is nothing to worry about.

The biggest asset of the movie is horror scenes, which we had been craving to see. Over two hours horror drama doesn't disappoint you in this department.

While spook noises, dark ambiance, evil spirits are the quintessential elements in every horror flick, but are mostly incompetent to be carried with perfection, Alone' here sets these components at right place with perfect timing. It won't spoil YOUR mood with cheap thrills and you will be moved with the innovative ideas that are used to thrill you.

Awara song review

Alone has already been asserted to be a horrex drama but don't get carried away with its promos and songs which bends the movie more towards sex'. Lovemaking scenes and sensual songs do occupy an appropriate chunk in the flick but without dissecting the main horror plot. Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover sizzle in these parts while their individual performances too are captivating.

Bipasha Basu as a terrified lady in the beginning while as a ghost herself shines. Already expert in carrying such roles with excellence, Bipasha just takes her act to another level.

Karan Singh Gorver flaunts his acting skills with same exactness that he carries while flaunting his body when required. As a caring boyfriend to Bipasha he plays his part well.

Music by Ankit Tiwari and Mithoon is of top notch. Almost all the songs are beautiful and gel well with the story. With beautiful picturisation, the songs get more recall value. Awara and Katra Katra are our pick from the album.

With some genuine scary moments and Bipasha-Karan's scorching chemistry, Alone stands APART from numerous horrible horror flicks made in the past.

Alone movie review- a scary saga with difference

Critics Review

Too many films hitting this Friday, 16th January 2015, which certainly includes the horror drama - Alone. The movie has the debut Karan Singh Grover along with the dusky beauty of B Town-Bipasha Basu and Zakir Hussain along with Sagar Saikia. The director of the film is Bhushan Patel, who is a known director for making scary movies like Ragini MMS 2, 1920: Evil Returns, while it is produced by a slew of people including Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak, Prashant Sharma and Pradeep Agarwal. The music is composed by Jeet Ganguly, Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari. The movie is produced under the banner of Panorama Studios, well time to dig deep into the film as under:

The plot revolves the two conjoined sisters called Anjana and Sanjana (played by Bipasha Basu). The twin sisters live with just one promise, which claims that we will always be together, come what may and will never ever separate. However, under certain mysterious circumstance, one of the sisters dies, while the other is survived. After this, the surviving sister - Sanjana is seen settling down with his sweetheart friend Kabir. The two are a loving couple; however, Sanjana is extremely possessive about her husband, which Kabir dislikes about her leading to quarrels and fights. Later, the dead sister comes in the form a ghost to scare and haunt the surviving sister against the allegation of why the promise was broken. However, her husband fails to understand any kind of presence of the dead sister. On the other end, Sanjana is seen entering into DEPRESSION and encounters a nervous breakdown, which eventually compels Kabir to consult his friend Namit who is a psychiatrist, however, he realises Sanjana's condition is beyond science. Is the existence of her dead sister's spirit the real problem or it is mere the guilt backed imagination of Sanjana, which is making things bad to worse is an important question to explore in the movie.

Now, let's talk about performances. Talking about the storyline of the movie, it is based on Thai Original, which seems very much impressive. Thanks to the director's experience in dealing with such kind of scripts that has helped him to bring out something interesting. The director has left no stone unturned to shape the story with something NEW and fresh elements, which in turn would become the USP of Alone. Now, let's talk about the performance of Sanjana as an over possessive wife and a lady living in guilt about her sister's death. The performance of the dusky beauty seemed better than her previous Creature 3D, perhaps, this time, you have a director Bhushan Patel, who is skilled to extract nothing but the best from the lead roles and Bips was no exception. Karan Singh Grover as Kabir was also perfect in his performance. After carving his niche over smaller screens, his debut performance over the silver screen was promising, yet at times was seen being overshadowed by the performance of Bipasha Basu. Others too were okay in their performance.

The movie has a dull start, giving too many confusions, hence demands your focus giving therefore less loo breaks. As the movie transcends further, the film turns out interesting, giving some of the unique and interesting climax to catch. Don't miss the end or else, you had to invest the same amount of time and energy to catch it again watching the whole movie at a stretch. The director as said was awesome in his job, while the others in the role of music composition and lyrics and editing too were good. The music had received a mixed review, however, a couple of songs are rocking in the chartbuster. As you end up watching the movie, you would find this horror flick taking a couple of scenes borrowed by the movie The Conjuring.

Alone Review - Last Word

The movie Alone, starring Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover has something unique in it, which comes in the form of a creative script and story. The director has done an incredible job to present the horror element in the most creative way. Backed by good performances of the lead characters, the movie all together becomes a good stuff to catch with. Of late, Bips and horror has been synonymous to each other, and this time, the dusky beauty has done a much smarter and better performance, again the credit goes to the director who has been ace in such ventures. Bips is simply seen rocking on the screen with her ghost AVATAR, which will help you enjoy the spooky moments in Alone. All in all, the movie is okay and thus gets the rating of 3.5.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Alone isn't as horrifically bad as most Bollywood horror flicks tend to be. But that obviously is not saying much.

No matter how hard it tries, Alone, directed by Bhushan Patel of Ragini MMS fame, cannot break free from the constricted space that the genre allows.

This scare fest is a remake of a 2007 Thai horror film about two conjoined twins who are literally torn apart by jealousy and violence when both fall in love with the same man.

The conflict between the siblings transcends the here and now and takes on supernatural proportions as unrequited love assumes the shape of an angry spirit that returns to haunt the surviving sister and the man that she is married to.

To be fair, Alone delivers enough surface-level chills and thrills to please diehard fans of this form of entertainment.

But those that expect paranormal thrillers to open the doors to deeper layers of experience will find in this film nothing that could capture their imagination.

Sanjana and Anjana (Bipasha Basu) are Siamese twins that are physically and emotionally yoked. Their dependence on each other is deep and they vow to preserve their bond for eternity.

Their love is severely tested when the handsome Kabir (Karan Singh Grover) walks into their lives.

Cupid strikes both Sanjana and Anjana, but the man that they fall for reciprocates the feelings of only one of them.

The sisters are separated, one of them loses her life in the bargain, and the other flies away with Kabir to a life of marital bliss.

Years later, Kabir and his wife return to the family home when the girls' mother meets with an accident.

The spirit of the dead sister confined all these years to a room in the house grabs the opportunity to make her presence felt in ways that can only rattle the married couple.

But does the repeated appearance of the ghost and her malevolent shadow add up to genuine shocks for the audience?

The director, the cinematographer (Prakash Kutty) and the editor (Devendra Murdeshwar) try their best to whip up dread through a mix of dim lighting, spooky silhouettes and sounds, abrupt snips, skewed angles and other horror movie effects.

They do get it right on a few occasions, startling the audience out of the seats.

But once it becomes clear what on earth is going on in the house, the fear factor diminishes considerably and the rest of the film turns into a matter of merely going through the motions.

Especially those that have seen the Thai original will find Alone largely forced, if not entirely off target.

Bipasha is obviously not solitary figure in Alone. She plays both Sanjana and Anjana and has to carry a whole lot of weight on her shoulders. Inevitably, the effort shows all too often.
Her task is made all the more onerous because lead actor Karan Singh Grover, who flashes his well-toned body at the drop of a hat but does not appear quite as adept at conveying emotions, appears to sleepwalk through his role.

Alone is strictly for those that have an insatiable appetite for cinematic concoctions that serve up the dual dose of sex and horror.

Stay away if you have had enough of Bips and her deadly on-screen dalliances with the nether world.

Alone Review

Alone Movie Poster

Rating: 2.5/5 Stars (Two and half stars)

Star Cast: Karan Singh Grover, Bipasha Basu,Zakir Hussain

Director: Bhushan Patel

What's Good: The use of all possible creepy elements such as wooden doors that make noises, swing and an overall horrific location. Interestingly, Bhushan Patel manages to infuse a good amount of suspense in the film and stretches it to the very climax even though one starts getting the hints quite early on. The visual effects are quite decent and it seems Patel is getting the hang of it with every film.

What's Bad: Well, I would say a wrong timing of intimate scenes that nearly breaks the link of a could have been' gripping tale. Also the spine chilling moments don't come very often and more often than not it is the background score that gives away what's coming, thus leaving you all ready for the scene.

Loo break: Won't miss much! Relieve yourself!

Watch or Not?: Alone is once again not an out and out horror film and so it won't satiate your scary needs or give you nightmares. If you are a fan of Bollywood's horror films then this one is worth your watch. Don't even think of comparing it to its original Thai film by the same name, because I couldn't watch that one without closing my eyes every two seconds. Alone is a decent weekend watch if you have nothing else to do.

Sanjana and Anjana are conjoined twins who swear to be together no matter what. Right from their childhood, the twins seem too share distinct personalities and while Sanjana is usually the loving and caring one, Anjana is somewhat spoilt by this. As years pass by and the twins grow old, the more and more attention that Sanjana gets, it creates insecurities for Anjana and jealousy steps in when both fall for the same guy, Kabir (Karan Singh Grover). Kabir falls in love with Sanjana and that's unbearable for her twin sister.

Well, after years of losing her sister in an operation to separate them, Sanjana who is happily married to Kabir returns to her hometown Kerala, only to be haunted by her sister's ghost. Whilst hurting Sanjana what are her sister's motives? Is it just Kabir or something else? Watch to find out.

Karan Singh Grover and Bipasha Basu in a still from movie Alone'

Alone Review: Script Analysis

I have to agree even though adapted; the film's story is quite a breath of fresh air with a haunted twin as the focus. Alone has its own spine-chilling moments and in certain scenes the visual effects such as the rotating bed scene' almost takes you back to the Exorcism of Emily Rose. The story is well-kept and with a tinge of suspense it is gripping in parts.

The only problem is that once again like most horror stories this one too relies on the same old tricks and more often than not they are cheap thrills, nothing that give you a haunting experience. Use of Kerala backwaters as the scary location is a good move. Bhushan Patel gets better with his story and certainly he has gone a notch higher from his last Ragini MMS 2.

All in all the story is a winner for the hero considering both the twins are not only obsessed with him affectionately but sexually too! At one point it seems as though all the ghost wanted to do was to sleep with Karan Singh Grover since that is the only thing that happens when the ghost possess a body.

Overall this one disappoints since it does not really break Bollywood's streak of coming up with average, not-so-nerve-wrenching dramas.

Alone Review: Star Performances

Bipasha Basu is known to be the horror queen' and she does maintain this image of hers withAlone. The actress other than flaunting her hot bod in the normal avatar does a much better job when she takes up the ghostly garb. She is scary but sadly don't let her speak is what I would say. Beware she might scare you off with her obsessive erotic thoughts. Well, after Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, all men may get scared of this one.

Karan Singh Grover debuts with this film but he still acts just like it is a TV serial drama. More often than not, he is stone faced in the film but the actor does best at flaunting his body and well that's all for his character.

Alone Review: Direction, Editing and Screenplay

Bhushan Patel is certainly one of the better one when it comes to mixing erotic and horror in one film. In this one, thankfully he sticks to the intimate portions only with one song and that is quite a relief. The problem comes when there is a repetitive background score which may scare you for a bit but after a point it is just monotonous.

Also it would have been better if the director had introduced some fresh elements in the film rather than the same old practices of wooden doors reeking and utensils banging and of course why do people keep pianos in the house, for ghosts to come up and play in the middle of the night. The editing is fine as the film is kept crisp for most portions other than songs that could have been chucked since they break the overall link.

Alone Review: The Last Word

Alone at the end is quite a typical Bollywood horror film which will scare you in bits and parts. Of course it's an achievement it does not get funny since we have a habit of usually taking it lightly considering the primitive effects they used earlier. For its special effects, its not exceptional but does a decent job of giving you minor jerks in the seat. I am going with a 2.5/5 for this film.
