What a wonderful way to end the year! Watching a film like PK!
Firstly, can't understand the brouhaha over the film hurting religious sentiments, especially of Hindu's. I am a practising Hindu and there was nothing in the film that offended me.
Secondly, kudos to Hirani and team for making a film questioning religion (not God) in a country like India.
Coming to the film, without doubt, one of the best films of this year. Probably the best. In terms of the social message it gives and the relevance it has to our current society. Hirani makes a film that makes a strong statement without being preachy. A film that is gently thought provoking and not unnecessarily ballistic. It poses a question on the way we approach God, not on the very existence of God itself. Maybe, this is why PK has worked so well with both critics and audience.
The dialogues were all wonderful and clearly written with a lot of thought going into it. I particularly loved one...why do we pray to the God whom we have created, instead of praying to the God who created us? 👏 That's a very powerful line and one that is so true.
The performances were outstanding. We can just forget that D3 ever happened. Aamir has redeemed himself with PK. He is absolutely marvellous in each and every scene. It is a flawless performances and proves how and why he is heads and shoulders above everyone else in Bollywood right now. You can't watch PK and not fall in love with the character that Aamir has portrayed so very well.
Anushka looks radiantly lovely and has given a very natural performance. Its not her usual bubbly, exuberant type of role...she is excellent where she has to be subdued or emotional.
Sushant even in his limited role is impressive and so likeable! Saurabh Shukla is a hoot as Guruji!
But without doubt, the real hero of the film is Rajkumar Hirani, who has taken a complex subject like religion and made such an entertaining yet deep film out of it.
The only glitch in the otherwise nearly flawless film was the last scene, where Anushka and Sushant speak to each other on the phone. That was very jarring and looked so forced. (Albeit Sushant was so good in that scene!)
This is definite must see movie, for everyone! People should leave their prejudices behind and watch the film for themselves before jumping to conclusions. It will certainly open a few minds!
PS: The Shiva scene that has offended a lot of people is actually one of the funniest in the movies. I literally collapsed laughing! 😆
