Waris Shah goes to Berlin

The latest venture from the house of Sai Productions, Waaris Shah — Ishq Daa Waaris, a Punjabi feature film starring Gurdas Maan, Juhi Chawla and Divya Dutta, has been chosen for the Berlin Film Festival (Asia Pacific) 2006. It is the lone entry in this category, which speaks volumes for the movie directed by Manoj Punj.

The film is based on the life of Waris Shah, the legendary Sufi saint who wrote the unforgettable love story of Heer-Ranjha. Meanwhile, the film has been receiving tremendous response in Canada. Chak de, Waris!

Yash Chopra loves Switzerland. We all know that. And so do Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Kajol, Bipasha Basu, Sridevi and Shah Rukh Khan.

Which is why the stars descended on a suburban hotel to celebrate. But what could have been a classy event, turned out to be a supremely mismanaged nightmare for the media.

Photographers (from publications that were invited) were barred from entering the premises and a TV crew covering the event live was hassled by an organiser who forbade them from shooting.

There were misdemeanours galore, till a thoroughly disgruntled electronic media finally boycotted the event and walked out. A sheepish Chopra was overheard mumbling, "I'm a guest like you, so I don't know what to say."

Erm, how about "I'm sorry"? The next time you invite the media, Mr Chopra, at least treat them with a little more respect.
