Was YJHD a Blockbuster only because of Ranbir ?

I agree. I'm a fan of Ranbir but he was not the SOLE reason why YJHD became a hit. The movie had awesome songs and again like its being said, another major reason was that most of the fans were RK-DP lovers... 😃

4. A modern love story, but in the vein of the old BW romances with cheese and where the hero and heroine had equal roles. The female was not a flowerpot. 😲 *double gasp*

A cheesy romantic story with good songs and leads who have great chemistry always works in BW.

No. Films work b/c of whole package.

Ranbir-Deepika pairing, MUSIC, annoying promotions, ARK fresh off of A2, MUSIC, youthful vibe, MUSIC...it all worked.

Even Karan said...promo was well received but it wasn't amazing...Badtameez Dil was the masterstroke. Then Balam Pichkari.

None of the new stars have the capacity or ability to make movies a hit purely on the basis of their name or presence. What makes the movie a hit is the story, presentation, songs, content, etc...The star cast is not relevant...The ability to make a movie work because of your name/star power is something only 3-4 actors have...I don't even think Hrithik and Akshay...so Ranbir toh door ki baat hai lol - Ranbir is yet to have a solo hit film that rides on his name only (never going to happen because hes overacted)

didnt even want to watch bc i found ranbir annoying but he was great and attractive with the beard but the music was the biggest part of the success
i didnt like it when i first watched it but gave it another chance because of deepika now i like it
