Happy New Year has grossed 245 crore worldwide which is the fourth highest total ever behind Dhoom 3, Kick and Chennai Express. Dhoom 3 had grossed 333 crore and is way ahead of the pack while the other three are in 245-250 crore range.
The film has put up fantastic first week numbers at home and abroad though there was a fall in collections in various markets of India and overseas after the weekend. The film will comfortable cross the 300 crore mark in its entire run
This will make it only the sixth film in history to go over 300 crore worldwide. The other five being Dhoom 3, 3 Idiots, Chennai Express, Kick and Ek Tha Tiger.
Happy New Year has grossed a huge 134 crore nett in its first week and the second highest first week of the year after Kick which grossed around 155 crore nett. The film had strong weekend and its all India collections were good on Monday and Tuesday but it fell on Wednesday.
Despite the falls in the latter part of the week it has still racked up a big first week number as Mumbai circuit has put up a fantastic number of around 46 crore nett and Gujarat could be an all time record for week one when the finally numbers come.
The film has not up held up with strongly but its not bad either and the second week will contribute a healthy total. The hold is not as strong as Kick but better than other big films this year like Singham Returns, Bang Bang and Jai Ho so second week figures should be higher than those films.
A record start at the box office meant that Happy New Year was always going to be safe enough. This is what happened, what with the Shah Rukh Khan starrer going on to collect good moolah at the end of its first week.
Of course, with an opening day in excess of 44 crore, it was pretty much expected that the film would maintain a wonderful high right through the weekdays as well. Though that wasn't quite the case with collections being decent to good, and not extraordinary, the Farah Khan directed film still managed to emerge as one of the Top Grossers of the Year.

As things stand now, the film has collected around 157.5 crore (exact numbers are awaited as producers are yet to announce their final numbers) which makes it the 2nd Highest Grosser ever for Shah Rukh Khan after Chennai Express. Though it is unlikely that the film would cross the total of Chennai Express (227 crore), it is a plus affair for sure.
All eyes are now on how the second week would perform as that would decide whether Shah Rukh Khan would have his second double century in a row, a feat that no actor has achieved so far.

Tamil and Telugu version made near 4 cr. But 157 isn't 138 (=134+4).
19 crore's inflation.
Week one total by producers, if less than Kick's total, will prove that the figures are not inflated. If the producers had to report manipulated numbers, they would have shown the numbers have beaten Kick in week one. To me, this also tells that BOI under reports. They do not have a reliable collection tracking system, particularly in south region( even for hindi version of films). Therefore they just estimate, rather than track collections accurately. I would assume that we should accept producers figures over BOI for any film.Originally posted by: .Elixir.

if they can do 19 cr inflation..they can as well do a little more to show they have beaten kick..which they havent..doesnt this INDICATE that these numbers are rather real?Originally posted by: NailClipper
