Top Openings 2014 - Happy New Year Tops

Happy New Year has taken the best opening of the year by a distance in the morning shows and if this pace holds which it should as it is a big holiday it will be an all time record. The other films releases this year did not hold the same pace for some reason or the other apart from Ek Villain and 2 States.

Kick was hit by pre eid so although the opening was so strong it was uneven and the muslim centres slowed rapidly after first show at single screens. Bang Bang took a 70% start at multiplexes but was held back by single screens and slowed in the evening at many places. At the time it looked like it was due to Navratra's and Puja's but in hindsight it was obviously word of mouth kicking in. The other films that opened well were Ek Villain, Two States and Jai Ho with the first two being smaller releases and Jai Ho having better occupancies at multiplexes in the morning on lower rates but not really consolidating.

The average occupancies in the morning shows of releases this year are as follows.

1. Happy New Year 75-80%

2. Kick 60-65%

3. Bang Bang 60-65%

4. Ek Villain 60-65%

5. Jai Ho 55-60%

5. 2 States 55-60%

Is Raja Sen okay? Until last year he used regularly criticise Deepika's work.

What a turn-around.

Raja Sen became Deepika's admirer since Cocktail. That was the first review I read of his, where he praised Deepika...after that, he seems to have been completely smitten by her!😆

Am going to watch it during the weekend, if I manage to get the tickets! Some of my friends saw the FDFS and they were all saying the same thing, much better than what was expected!

I am beginning to think that the bad promo's and trailers were intentional afterall...they kept expectations for the film very low and now everyone is liking what they are getting.

@Shreya, the panauti on HNY is off. Mihir and Raja Sen have given the film thumbs down. Only Masand is left. If he too gives below 3 stars, then HNY is a sure short BB!😆
