How the f**k is there a case when dowry is not humiliating? Doesn't it imply oh! your daughter ain't good enough-give us some money and it's cool..Ironical when the reviewer keeps calling out the movie for being regressive😵

movie rating 3.5/5.simple and sweet movie.movie is based on one of the major issue of india dowry.
parineeti chopra stole the show in first half as in first half aditya role is pretty less as he makes entry in the movie after 40 minutes and once he enters the chemistry between parineeti and aditya is superb.so many foodie items r shown in the movie thats u really feel tempted for that food. .parineeti and aditya both were excellent in there performances.anupam kher also at its best.in the starting menu of the film it was shown introducing karan wahi i thought he may have some important role in the movie but it was basically a guest appearance he look good and confident in that.

Daawat-e-Ishq review: Aditya Roy Kapur, Parineeti Chopra's film is hardly delicious

by Piyasree Dasgupta Sep 19, 2014 13:54 IST

First things first. Daawat-e-Ishq is not a new film.

You have watched it many, many times. At one time, it was called Ladies vs Ricky Bahl. At another, Bluffmaster. Actually, take a Karan Johar college romance and replace its waxed, designer hero with rusty con man, or con woman. Scrape away its gay jokes and fat boy humour with a fistful of earthy word play. What you get is Daawat-e-Ishq and that's probably the biggest misfortune for a film written and directed by Habib Faisal.

Despite being written and directed by Faisal, who wrote that warm cupcake of a film Do Dooni Char, Daawat-e-Ishq tries to root itself in a similar, realistic universe of realism, but with a few Bollywood accents. As a result, if you've managed to sit through till the interval, you know exactly what's going to happen in the end.

However, that's the boring part and when it begins, Daawat-e-Ishq is not a drag. Gulrez Qadir (Parineeti Chopra) is a feisty, smart college-going girl in Hyderabad. Her father, played by Anupam Kher, is a senior clerk in the high court. Gulrez topped her batch in class XII exams, does a part time job in a shoe shop and is also studying in college. Her father, however, wants her to get married as soon as possible and lines up several prospective grooms for her. Not only are these men caricaturish, silly and undeserving, they also demand steep dowry for marrying Gulrez, aka Gullu.

A still from Daawat-e-Ishq. Image courtesy: Facebook page of film.

Fed up of these obviously evil people, Gullu hatches a plan to con a rich guy who demands a hefty dowry. She'll have a fake nikah with him, then frame him in a dowry harassment case, wrench a lot of money out of the guy's family in an out-of-court settlement and finally escape to New York to study fashion designing. She manages to rope her father in to help her achieve her target. They decide to target the hapless gents of Lucknow who have signed up to matrimonial websites.

And then Gullu meets Tariq aka Taru (Aditya Roy Kapur). His family owns the oldest kebab place in Lucknow, which is the daawat part of the title. Gullu, then in the disguise of Sania from Dubai, chooses Tariq as the target of her con because he's the richest of all the prospective grooms she's encountered. Unless you have been living under a rock all these years as Bollywood laughed its way to banks, you know what happens next. Or at least how it all ends. Here's a hint: With a song, of course!

It's never been very difficult to sit through a film that has Parineeti Chopra in it. There is something intensely endearing about her. That's perhaps because she makes the ordinary seem engaging, the odd seem cute and doesn't let her audience's attention stray from her when she is onscreen. With Anupam Kher playing her father, the duo makes the first few episodes of Daawat-e-Ishq an easy watch.

There are obvious lapses in logic. Why is a middle class, educated, financially comfortable father so desperate to marry off a smart girl like Gulrez as if that's the only good thing she can do with her life? She hasn't even finished her undergraduate degree. Why does Gulrez never protest her father's preoccupation with getting her married? Her morally upright father's quick u-turn and agreement to take part in a con is entirely unconvincing. However, despite inconsistencies, the playful banter between Gulrez and her father hold the film together through the first 45 minutes well.

And then, like all good things, that first half comes to an end. What is more unfortunate is that the end comes hand in hand with the most good-looking thing in the film - Aditya Roy Kapur. It's a crime to take someone like Kapur, strip him of his greatest talent - ie his gorgeousness - and clothe him instead in uncouthness. Faisal puts Kapur in shirts that best work as cushion covers, blunts his beautiful jawline with stubble, paints his eyes over with surma and asks you to believe that a girl will fall in love with him. Especially when his dialogue delivery sounds a bit like he is in the middle of a Dev Anand caricature at a high school play. It doesn't help that Kapur as Taru has the personality of a school head boy trying to make sure everything runs smoothly at the annual fest. Actually, there's more chemistry between a plate of biryani and Anupam Kher than there is in a romantic scene between Gullu and Taru. So when we are told that they are in love, it's as difficult for us to digest it as it was to watch Katrina Kaif playing a politician for half a minute in Rajneeti.

There's also the minor detail that the film's message on Section 498A is deeply confusing. Is Faisal really saying that it's okay for women to use it to victimise innocent families? Or is he suggesting that dowry cases are false?

But much worse than Faisal's take on Section 498A is Daawat-e-Ishq's ending, which has everything from ghastly action choreography -- clearly the one thing that Parineeti Chopra cannot do is do fight scenes -- to corny dialogues. Friends and fans of Faisal, just pretend the last 15 minutes of Daawat-e-Ishq never happened. To give you a fair sense, it's worse than the last 15 minutes in Ishaqzaade.

Dawaat E Ishq And Khoobsurat Have Slow Start
Friday 19 September 2014 13.30 ISTBox Office India Trade Network
Daawat E Ishq and Khoobsurat opened to similar occupancies of 15-20% at multiplexes. The opening at single screens was better for Daawat E Ishq. The main difference is the screen count where Daawat E Ishq has a wider release be it multiplexes and singls screens So if all things stay equal Daawat E Ishq will easily have the better collections.
Obviously both films are dependent on word of mouth as openings are low so if one is better than the other then that will film come out on top eventually. The plus for Daawat E Ishq is that can put up some numbers in places like CP Berar, CI and Nizam while Khoobsurat is totally dependent on multiplex business in bigger circuits.
Saturday will be the important day for both films though Daawat E Ishq has a pretty wide single screen probably due to Muslim touch it is still primarily a multiplex film and and Saturday will have to grow. Khoobsurat will have to show big growth on Saturday otherwise it will not go anywhere. The plus is that both films have no major releases next week so can take advantage if one or both can find some appreciation..

Daawat-e-Ishq
ByBollywood Hungama News Network,19 Sep 2014, 14:39 hrs IST
Rating: 2.5 |
Bollywood has, over the years, witnessed many a film, which spoke about and highlighted the age old 'tradition' of the evil dowry system. In the past, films like MEHNDI, GHAR HO TOH AISA etc. have spoken of this social evil. This week's release DAAWAT-E-ISHQ also treads on the same territory, but in a 'delicious' manner (as the title suggests).
To start with, the title of the film DAAWAT-E-ISHQ is misleading, as the film is about dowry system and not about food and delicacies as the film's title and promotions indicate. This film highlights the fact that not only are girls from middle class families subjected to this unethical custom of paying dowry during weddings, but also how today's girls can actually con (courtesy, internet) any simple loving boy off his emotions and wealth, using the law.
The film starts off from the household of a Hyderabad based family of Gulrez Gullu Qadir (Parineeti Chopra), who happens to be an academic topper in the state of Andhra Pradesh, and who is equally good in sports. Despite all her achievements, her prospective in-laws demand dowry from her simpleton righteous father (Anupam Kher), who works as a clerk in the High Court. Gulrez manages to rag and drag out the money hungry prospective grooms and their families at every possible meeting that her father arranges. That's when Amjad Baig (Karan Wahi), a rich guy who is on his way to USA for further studies, enters her life. The two fall in love and when their respective parents meet up for marriage discussion, Gulrez gets a shock of her life as she hears Amjad's parents asking for monetary 'help' and not dowry, which her father cannot afford to pay. Even worse, Amjad too fails to stand by his love. This is when Gulrez is heart-broken and decides to teach the 'dowry' seeking grooms and their family a lesson. Her plan is to con a rich groom, use Section 498 (A) of the Indian Law and extract alimony money from the family in which she gets married.
After convincing her father, Gulrez and her father change their identities, reach Lucknow and pose as rich business family from Dubai. The stage is then set in a hotel room wherein Gulrez's father scans the bridegrooms and schedules them for interviews after checking their profiles on a matrimonial website. However, a night before the meetings, while they are dinning at Hydari Kabab restaurant, Gulrez and her father bump into the young dashing owner of the place Taariq Haider (Aditya Roy Kapur). Taariq, who too is one of the candidates selected, gets impressed by Gulrez and uses his charm and culinary skills to impress Gulrez and her father. The father-daughter duo meanwhile also discovers that he is the richest of all the candidates that they have met. The two families meet, Gulrez records their dowry discussion on a hidden camera, she eventually gets married to Taariq and the plan is successful. She gets the money and leaves for Hyderabad. Only problem, she too has fallen in love with Taariq but can't go back. Will she confess her crime and come clean and will Taariq forgive and accept her as his wife forms the rest of the story.
DAAWAT-E-ISHQ, which has been directed and written by Habib Faisal (who had earlier made films like DO DOONI CHAAR, ISHAQZAADE), fails to live upto the standards of a YRF film. This film, despite dealing with a sensitive issue and a strong social message, loses its track gradually as the film progress. While the film has a comparatively engaging first half, it stumbles in the dragging second half. Plus, the slow pace of the film doubles up as a villain in the film's progress. Having bankable names like YRF, Aditya Roy Kapur and Parineeti Chopra at the helm of things, Habib had immense scope as a director to shape the film into a sensible one, but that doesn't quite happen.
As for the actors, Aditya Roy Kapur excels and shines as the Hyderabadi lad Taariq. He can be very aptly termed as the true charmer in this film, who delivers an effortless performance. He has taken immense care to perfect the accent and the mannerisms of his character. Unfortunately, he appears 50 minutes later into the film. Parineeti Chopra, on the other hand, who is known for her ability to get into her characters with utmost ease, seems like a bit of a misfit in the role of Gulrez. Not that her act lacks the spunk but her imbalanced and poorly written character makes her look very confused in the film. Anupam Kher, as the girl's father, too does not bring anything new to the table and seems to have got stuck in the stereotype role. While the film solely rests on these three principal characters, the rest of the characters simply help in carrying the film forward.
Despite the film being an 'invitation to love', there is nothing delicious about the film's music (Sajid-Wajid). Except for the title song, the other songs are a big letdown and don't register. On the other hand, the film holds its steam because of its crisp editing (Meghna Manchanda Sen) and its cinematography (Himman Dhamija). Despite the presence of Sham Kaushal for action, the action scenes in the climax scene look gimmicky.
The film does have its moments of emotions, comedy and drama. Parineeti does complete justice in the climax scene when she explains the reason behind her master plan to Aditya. Parineeti's scenes with Anupam Kher and her 'bidaai' scene invoke a few laughs. However, it's hard to believe that the character of Anupam Kher, who is a very honest man and Parineeti, who is a well-educated state topper, would even think of pulling off such a big con-job. Karan Wahi's segment too seems forced into the first half, making it drag. A special mention does go to the father-daughter relationship shown between Anupam and Parineeti, as they seem to share a great rapport on-screen.
On the whole, the plot of DAAWAT-E-ISHQ does have a good social message relevant to today's times, however, wrong marketing and slow pace of the film leaves the audience a bit disappointed

@DaawatEIshq Garnished with @AdityaRoyKapoor & @ParineetiChopra 's performance it can be summed up as an old recipe with a modern fusion.
