'Happy New Year' - 'Manwa Laage'

'Happy New Year'

Farah Khan's recently released film, Happy New Year', has done record-breaking business since it released on Diwali last week. The director is naturally excited with the business the film has already managed to do and says it especially feels good as a film directed by a female director has had the biggest ever opening.

Speaking to IANS, Khan said, "We live in a sexist country where women are put down, treated badly and told that they can't do things that men do. Being a woman, numbers have come like this. Not only a woman director, but no male director has also got this kind of an opening. So, we should definitely celebrate it."

Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, Happy New Year' raked in over Rs. 100 Crores in its opening weekend itself.

The film completes a successful hattrick of the director's association with her favourite leading actor, Shah Rukh Khan. The duo have previously worked together for Main Hoon Na' (2004) and Om Shanti Om' (2007).

The family drama Super Nani' and action film Roar - Tigers Of The Sundarbans' have had dull starts at the box office in India.

According to early figures, Super Nani' did better at metro multiplexes, while Roar' did slightly better in Maharashtra, CP Berar and Eastern markets. However, overall, Super Nani' is expected to do better business generally.

Meanwhile, Happy New Year' continued to perform well although there will be a significant drop from its first weekend collections.
