Singham Returns featuring Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor released yesterday to packed houses. While the film has been faring well at the box-office, we decided to take a comparative view of the film.
In this Box-Office analysis, we compare the Opening Day collections of Singham Returns to its prequel, the 2011 film Singham as well as to the previous releases of Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor and Rohit Shetty. Interestingly, Singham Returns has clocked a much better opening collecting Rs. 32.09 crores as compared to Singham that recorded just Rs. 8.94 crores.
Simultaneously, Singham Returns becomes Ajay Devgn's Highest Opening Day Grosser out beating his previous releases like Himmatwala that collected Rs. 12.1 crore, Bol Bachchan that collected Rs. 12.10 crores and Satyagraha that managed Rs. 11.21 crores.
Similarly the film becomes Kareena Kapoor's highest grosser too overtaking her previous releases like Bodyguard that collected Rs. 21.60 crores, Ra.One that collected Rs. 18.50 crores and Satyagraha that managed Rs. 11.21 crores.
However, Singham Returns shies away from becoming Rohit Shetty's highest opening day grosser narrowly missing the mark that continues to be held by Chennai Express that collected Rs. 33.12 crores.

Singham Returns has emerged as a winner at the box office, setting a new record for the highest day-one collections of all-time. Distributors believe the film will collect around Rs 85 crore during the weekend and is likely to clock Rs 150 crore at the end of its first week.
Amazingly, tickets for the film are sold out in both multiplexes and single-screens, and distributors are categorical that Singham Returns will set many new benchmarks in the numbers game. Over to them:
Rajesh Thadani, Multimedia Combines
The film saw an outstanding response at the ticket window yesterday and astonishingly, collected over Rs 31 crore on day one, all-India. The film garnered around Rs 10 crore in Mumbai on its opening day. Today there is a slight fall in its numbers. The weekend will be spectacular and the film will join the 100-crore club in no time.
Sanjay Ghai, Mukta Arts, Delhi-UP
Singham Returns is one of the most well-made films this year. It is a clean, family film with no vulgarity, and cuts across all age groups. The film will garner Rs 150 crore all-India in its first week. Yesterday, it reeled in Rs 5.77 crore in Delhi and UP.
Jaspal Dhingra, Nanaskar Enterprises, East Punjab
The film earned Rs 2.7 crore in East Punjabi yesterday. Everyone is talking about Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty's collaboration. It's an entertaining film for the masses and for the classes.The response is mind-blowing. This is a family entertainer and fans of Shetty, Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan are making a beeline for cinemas.
Gaurrav Gaur, O'Real Imagination, Rajasthan
Singham Returns took a fantastic opening and the audience appears thrilled to see the Rohit Shetty-Ajay Devgn combo together again. No wonder, it collected Rs 1.8 crore yesterday. It's been a long time since such a hard-hitting action film released and advance booking for Sunday is phenomenal.
Debashish Dey, Aum Moviez, West Bengal
The film took a landslide opening in West Bengal and earned Rs 1.12 crore on its first day. Also, the numbers will rise over the weekend. Most shows are house full, especially in single-screen cinemas. The movie will break many records.
Jeetu Khandelwal, Pioneer Movies, Orissa
There is a drop in its numbers in smaller centres today but the film has held steady in big centres. The film collected Rs 50 lakh on its first day in our circuit and we expect impressive returns.
Sarang Chandak, Shri Rang Films, CP
Singham Returns clocked record-breaking numbers in many regions. In our circuit, the film reeled in Rs 2 crore , and I think it will collect Rs 125 crore all-India in its first week. All said and done, the audience is thoroughly enjoying the blockbuster jodi back together.
