BB isn't a massy flick. It's a drama on life. I don't think even Aamir has done this kind of a movie. The last was probably TZP. If you consider Salman's mass superstar status, it's a HUGE risk because the movie is along the lines of Salman's own Khamoshi.
Rahman is perfect for these kind of movies, of course, but he's been pretty meh lately. That's my only worry. Otherwise, he's fine for me.

Yuvvraj was the most soulful soundtrack of a Salman Khan film, but majority of Salman Khan fans like the Dhinka Chika type songs and cant appreciate other forms of music. That's why none of the songs of the film were a hit.
So yes, Rahman for Salman is a bad idea.
That's my biggest worry for BB. It's a drama and Salman fans have been used to his action/masala flicks lately, so I'm not sure how they'll take this. It's also different from movies SRK/Aamir do because even they haven't done an outright drama for a long time now.
Last time Salman's movies had soulful music was Yuvvraaj, JEM, and Lucky. 😆 Except Lucky, which was Average at the BO, both Yuvvraaj and JEM flopped. Rahman/soulful music certainly isn't for Bhaisexuals that's for sure.
But then again, ETT had Saiyaara and that's an epitome of soulfulness. BG had Tere Meri too. Amongst his BB flicks of late, I loved the music of ETT (Saiyaraa, Banjara, Lapataa) and BG (Tere Meri, I Love You) the most, but both the albums had chartbusters. ETT had Mashallah and BG had the title track and Desi Beats. Maybe Kabir should ask Pritam/Himesh to compose a masala song just for promotion's sakes. 😛
And, Salman's last non action/masala Hit was Ready, which was a comedy and before that we have to go to Partner (comedy again). In 2005, he had a string of Hits (No Entry and MPKK), but one was an outright slapstick comedy and the other was a rom-com. Lucky was a serious romantic drama, which didn't do well despite having a soulful music and a wonderful story.
In 2004, Salman had the successful Garv (action again) and Hit MSK (comedy again). So, if we're going to search for non action/comedy Hits of Salman, we have to go to Tere Naam and Baghban--11 years ago.
I know the audience has matured and back then many serious movies didn't work, so it's also the perfect time for Salman to try a movie like BB. If Khamoshi or HDDCS had come out today, it'd have hailed like no tomorrow and would have done Blockbuster business at the BO.
Times have changed really. And, I hope Salman smashes it.
