more than commercial success, these type of films need recognition, story needs to reach people. We should know & appreciate MK's struggle and hard work. it needs a popular face.

PC can make that happen.

and there are some North-east actors in it, like PC's husband. MK can be start for North-east actors to get recognition & it can work as a point where they get work in BW.

I see it as an opportunity. MK can work as that acceptance of northeasters in mind of many who are too ignorant. I am glad PC is doing it. You can't expect for everyone to start behaving differently than they have done so far. but I definitely wish for a change.

I haven't come across many who went to theater. I went in Wednesday show (half price in some places of US) & even that did not have many audience.

I am not denying Irrfan's abilities. he by all means is superior in acting & I don't see anyone molding so perfectly as PST, that MP accent, language, body language, getting everything perfect.

but still general audience don't see him as commercial hero, he still has that off-bit cinema image.

I am sure MK will have more audience because of commercial touch to it. sadly that what works in BW. and to me, main goal is for MK's story to reach to masses. we as Indians should know & appreciate their journey.

As much as I love authenticity but still whats the use of making film on a national hero when a nation doesn't hear about it, let alone watch it. Here the critic who had written it had conveniently compared Gandhi and Mary kom which is just wrong as bollywood is star driven film industry unlike hollywood. Lets bring comparison more close to home. Here I want to ask question - how many of you have watched movie on B R Ambedkar or even heard about it? Released in 2000 it had won 3 national award including best film and best actor for one of the most popular face of Malyalam film industry - Mammooty. I bet apart from mammoty fans 90% of people would not be even aware of the existence of such film. That percentage would rise even higher in northen India. So there is why Indian film industry need a popular face to tell such story for common public.

I think the fact that bw even attempts decent biopic should garner them a prize

and yes my expectation is that low

on topic, why blame bw?? ask any random person from random college in northern India and they will reply NW , wo to chinki hain , chinese. half chinese

so bw is nothing but reflection of this.

Its a good debatable topic.. i loved reading the article and conflicting points mentioned in the comments. But one thing which is annoying is thread starter biased hatred.

I am a PC fan, as much as i love her doing MK, i would have loved NE actress playing this role...But it also depends on the motives of what producer n director wants... if they want commercial success they will obv go for main stream actress.

I am glad that atleast all other actors are from North East. They didnt change the location completely to Punjab or Gujrat.

IF Priyanka Chopra wasn't in this movie it most likely wouldn't even be getting much attention.

Pretty sure it would not be discussed on IF.

Considering most of the topics dominating are about the current actors who are doing mainstream film. Always the same names.

I am all for newcomers and good stories. But it's seems if it's not a known actor doing a good story very few are actually interested in the film. publishing articles, pictures and even promoting the film and trailer etc. .

That's the sad thing about all this really.
