Because Katrina and Deepika are not on the same level of acting as Priyanka.

Also they are further away from looking like Mary Kom then priyanka. That would be some seriouse prosthetics and makeup.

If Khuji baba Mahesh Bhatt is cast as Dalai Lama then would be able to resist itching as monks are supposed to stay quite without moving body parts.

If they wanted a real actress why didn't they choose a real Manipuri actress?...Article has listed few of them and Geetanjali Thapa is actress PC can never be.

p.s PC and DP do look similar to me physically...Though PC lips are quite huge.

As much as minority community should be made part of mainstream cinema. I do understand why makers of BMB or MC went for commercially viable actors. The movies are based on legends of two sports which have not many takers in India at a national level. By going for a popular face , they not only ensure good business but also in a way are able to promote the stories in a better way.

Say for Pan Singh Tomar , Irfan might not belong to that community , region or religion but he captured the spirit perfectly. Why just bollywood in Hollywood RDJ was given a black face for tropic thunder when they could have gone for a black actor, RDJ went on to be nominated for the role at the oscars but the controversy continued.

Should we object if the actor like in this case PC get the spirit of MC bang on ? They have thankfully not made her wear prosthetic , kept most of the case from NE . That is a very big push for a region and its industry who I think not many will be able to name any member.

Would just getting the physicality part right make this movie more authentic? The movie is being made in hindi, now since the real MC speaks in a non-hindi language , would we not next expect the actor playing her to speak in that dialect too? Would then the movie not be relegated as some regional film?

Bollywood by using PC as MC is not only bringing a legend to the general public but also an industry which has remained untapped for long?Should we not be happy about that.

I doubt we would be discussing a Mary Kom movie if it had some other cast. It would have been branded as a documentary or as regional movie and long ignored.

Because if they cast Geetanjali Thapa the movie would not spread and be unappreciated no matter how good the story is.

Unfortunately in Bollywood it depends on names to make a film appeal to the masses and Priyanka is that name. They are trying to make this film reach a broader audience so this story is KNOWN which will be better in the long run.

Even if Deepika looks like Priyanka there is the preparation and training for the film involved. Maybe it was too gruelling for other actresses like Deepika to undertake.
