Kareena Kapoor is refreshed and rejuvenated after the much needed break. 'Omkara' was the last film she did after going off for her vacations. She had her share of fame with the film as her role was highly acclaimed. Choosing quality over quantity she has restricted herself to doing only substantial roles. Right not she has bagged the piece of cake for Mani Ratnam's 'Lajjo'. We talk to her about the film, her role and her plans of her birthday tomorrow.
Excerpts from the Interview:
How much geared are you about Mani Ratnam's Lajjo?
I'm very much interested about the role. There have been quite lot of preparations going on. I'll be undergoing Urdu classes and lots of dance rehearsals. I'll also change my hairstyle and restructure my body fitting into the criteria of Indian clothes. I'll be working out intensely from the next month for Lajjo. Though I'm slim and healthy I burn the extra calories working out if I eat heavily.
This is for the first time that you and Aamir Khan will be working together.
I've always admired him, watched all his films, read all his interviews and followed all his films. I bought tickets for Rang De Basanti six times. And I'm looking forward to work with him excitedly. Even to watch him on the sets is a learning experience. He has worked with Karisma in Andaz Apna Apna and Raja Hindustani and I've known him since then.
Is there any project going on with Shahid?
We've decided mutually that we'll not take up any project until something terrific comes up. Also we're looking to work in an out and out love story. Like me he too is going through scripts and believe me he goes through four scripts a day. But he hasn't come across anything exciting yet. He will start working only on a challenging script.
Both of you taking a break at the same time is just coincidental?
Absolutely. Shahid's latest films weren't convincing enough for him. Bad films trouble both of us. And so we decided for a change. We've realized that it's the script that can get you through. I still stand by Omkara and see my achievements as an actor there. I took a break after that to travel to one unexplored land after other with Shahid and spend time with friends. Now I'm feeling refreshed and looking for the right scripts.
How do you feel bagging the Smita Patil Memorial Award this year?
Smita Patil always awed me. I like her 'Arth' and wish I could perform one such role. I also like her in 'Bazaar'. But I'm also partial towards Supriya aunty (Shahid's step-mother Supriya Pathak) and feel that she didn't get her dues as an actress. I was holidaying in Vienna when my sister received a letter and called. It's an achievement and I feel that my hard work is finally paying off. I'm supposed to be awarded on September 19, just two days before my birthday; and it's going to be a great gift.
What are your plans for September 21?
Well I feel that I've done well for myself and I'm not sure what I want from my life and career. May be do some great films. Both professionally and personally I'm contended. I plan to go to Goa for my birthday, as that's my favourite holiday spot in India.
