When I first heard this - I thought he's got to be wrong... But having looked at the replies I think he may be right.

JAB WE MET really did make a mark and is really remembered today. Many of the other films mentioned are either not eligible (decade, genre) - and the rest I just don't think they quite cut it.

Although I would say these films also come close:

KAHO NA PYAR HAI

VEER-ZAARA

LOVESTORY 2050

Jab we met is the most beautiful, cute, adorable and lovely film and Geet is iconic.The most memorable performance of 2000's.

As a love story, I think it has to be Veer Zara.

I agree that films like MPK won't work in today's time and that's because the young audience can't relate to such a films.

Am I the only one who didn't care for Veer Zara and Fanaa. Veer Zara was such a bore..but I liked the chemistry and the scenes between PZ and Srk.

Fanaa was just average.

So I disagree with him, love stories are loved by everyone if they are good. The crappy rom coms he's making nowadays is not what I call a love story. And passionate romance? Does he mean hot intimidate scenes. Sorry to say but love stories exactly doesn't mean intimidate scenes, love stories are way beyond that.

Lastly jab we met is loved because it was a simple and sweet story. Even romance was sweet, similarly the romance in mpk was sweet and simple.

People still look for that simple and sweet romance in movies, a movie like mpk will work as people don't find such stories anymore and they need it, a movie like mpk will bring freshness,

And not to forget Vivian was a blockbuster and it had that sweet romance and it had no big stars yet it worked, anyways I hope PRDP starts a new trend for such love stories. We need those sweet love stories again

Hmm, I think because it was the film that made Kareena/ Imtiaz stars, it might be given that status, but 2000 era had plenty of other popular and well-liked love stories.

Love stories still work, but obviously they can't be the same as the ones that worked 20 years back. The notion of love has changed and the issues with it too.

I mean if you look at the love stories from last year that were successes...like Aashiqui 2, Ranjhanaa..they aren't the usual run of the mill ones.
