Let me clarify what I meant and why I said the punishment for rape should not be stricter than murder.

If rape is punished equally or even more severely as murder, it will be a disaster. Rapists will murder the victims after raping them, if murder is made the smaller crime.

At least today they leave the victim alive since the sentence is 'only' 7 years. That way, at least the victim gets a second chance at life. If they make it just as 'bad' as murder, all those rapists will turn murderers. That way, inflicting the victim of double punishment, and denying them a second chance.

I know we're all very emotional about this. But let us not allow our emotions supersede logic.

The minimum punishment for a rapist in India is 20 years.

And that logic dosen't hold.

Wow these r our politicians. No wonder our country has gone down the drain. Hope modi sarkar wins n do somethng good for the country n these thinking is pathetic. My close frnd got raped n i know how much she suffered. The rapists got few yrs punishment but the wound she suffered is too deep for to heal! Gladly she got some1 who really cares abt her n respect her! such views of these men r pathetic. It is not galti it is a crime. Rape is not a mistake it is a crime. Boys need to learn to keep their thing inside their pants. In my college whenever girls in skirt passes, boys cmmnt she is s**t she will get easily banged. I get disgusted by these statements and really wonder how society can be so much regressive! Even if we oppose these views others make fun of us!

Yes it is done to over power a woman to rob her self respect. And the victims are even more victimized by our society and system.😡

What's the worse thing is that the rapist, eve teasers and molester's family support them. I can relate a incidence with me during holi 2 years back. A teenage boy aged 15 delebrately threw a water balloon on me delebrately to enjoy the scene. 😡When I complained along with my neighbours( families of girls who were also targeted)his family said that he is just a boy and it was our fault.His family is actually teaching him to disrespect women and I feel this boy may turn to a future molester🤬.
