I just commented based on the fact that the hype around the film is so low-key, which is surprising because it stars two of the most popular actors around...Ranveer and Parineeti, plus as you said, its a Shaad Ali film, who has given two huge hits before.
Also, Ranveer is not talking about the film at all in his recent interviews. He speaks mostly about DDD and other projects. This might be because YRF discourages its actors from speaking about under-production films, but still!
Hopefully, I am wrong and the film is promoted as well as Gunday was!
@Scorp...UTV is without doubt the best production house around! Everyone who has worked under UTV, right from Mandira Bedi to Rajkumaar Rao has only benefitted by their association with them!

Ranveer does talk about the movie but not in detail like what the story is or anything else, he has spoken about how excited he is about working with the cast. The same with DDD he only mentions that he is dong the film after killdil.
Gunday didn't have buzz until the trailer came out, but it was the promotions carried out by ranveer, arjun and priyanka which really increased the buzz for the movie. The reason being is because all three were funny and had a great repertoire between them.
Which is why I feel the promotions of killdil will also be the same and high on energy, ranveer and pari have big personalities, and ali zafar is fun. Then you add in a legend like govinda which makes it even better.

@Poppy:

SDR was promoted and marketed a lot better than usual yrf romcoms. Digital motion poster, innovative teasers, a trailer released a good 2 months before release. Songs were released gradually, there were promotions on FM, cast came to all the film based shows and also all the reality shows, jhalak dikhla ja, dance India dance super moms, kapil's show, I think even the other comedy show on Sony. Also there was a lot of promotion online and social media , from surveys to Twitter trends.
I think the reason for it was cos SDR was by jaideep sahni who is one of yrf's favourite writers, also they were quite confident abt this project, sdr also went to Toronto international film festival.

Exactly I was thinking the same, they didnt promote the beautiful songs like Rumaani Sa and O Heeriye.

The film could have been avergae, but I guess they were too busy with the money earned from D3, even promotions of Gunday and D3 was not good.

YRF should learn to change their promotional strategy.

They didn't want to promote dhoom 3 as that was part of their marketing strategy, they wanted to keep as much about the movie secret which is why released those 30 second clips for the songs and only made about 2-3 public appearances. They didn't to promote it because the movie had humongous buzz even before the trailer released.
Gunday was promoted a lot, the three of them went on many reality shows, did alot of interviews and made several public appearances at colleges, they even went to Dubai for the premiere and the trailer launch was done at the Dubai film festival.

I also made a similar thread .This is not right for a film itself ..Bewakoofiyan was not a bad film ..very relevant for today's generation

bcoz they thought Sonam is an ICON and she appeals to classes and masses so her movie does not need any promotion!

Ad promotion depends on the budget and target ROI of a movie. As promotion eat away a large chunk of cost of movie so it varied on different movies . They just make large number of movies out of that focus only on few movies and spend on promotion where the budget and return meant to be high.

One of the things a big studio does is introduce new faces. YRF is possibly the biggest studio in India. I have no clue how Adi Chopra is, but I think he feels more involved with Ranveer, Arjun, Pari and Anushka because he had a hand in creating them as actors. He is their mentor.

When Ranveer says Adi Chopra scolds him, you don't scold someone usually unless you care about them or have a relationship with them that goes beyond business. Adi is known as thus ruthless businessman, yet supposedly gave the title Tevar because Arjun asked. Possibly they had to pay money, but why give it. Though Adi possibly knew Sonam and Arjun as the kids of Anil and Boney, to him, Sonam may not be the same as Arjun to him.

YRF needs to make movies starring others than in house discoveries. Sonam , it looks good to have a YRF film on her resume, Ayushmaann came as a TV actor, a YRF is possibly prestigious for him. If the film makes money YRF wins, it the film fails YRF writes off their loses. Their best projects are reserved for Salman, SRK, Kat level people.
