DDLJ will always be remembered as a classic. It's been regarded as sort of a milestone in Bollywood. Mostly compared to the cult of Sholay.
Even today, you have so many Bollywood movies that make references to that movie. And it's probably the one movie I have heard so many actors stating as one of their favorites. In that sense, I think it's way ahead of HAHK.DDLJ has this young and quirky vibe to it. If you realize, half of the movie just revolves around two characters. Two strangers traveling and falling in love. The ultimate formula. Even the second half with the whole family and traditional occasions focuses more on this boy trying to maintain his identity while revealing snippets of his 'Indianness'. This movie is just more easy to get attached to it. All the fun, charm and romance just sucks you in.Although I'm a huge sucker for Soorah Barjatya movies. But more than HAHK, I absolutely love HSSH.
From suraj barjatya, i havent seen HAHK though I'd seen that HSSH, and it's brilliant(include salman) 😆 however nowhere I find it close to DDLJ.
It's mainly because it's kinda a movie which you can watch again and again and again. Though there are uncles and aunts and family too, but two young people are always there in the movie. Also people connect to this movie more than HAHK, in that movie there's kinda a tragedy, but in DDLJ its all is well, and perfect and happy at the end. And the major part why DDLJ is far ahead than HAHK, it began an era of romantic movies and a new culture of romance for an entire generation. And that's why SRK is mainly established as a romantic superstar whom no one could match. Salman isnt remembered for HAHK, and even salman fan knows that DDLJ is more famous and loved movie. KKHH and DDLJ and KKKG are more on TV than HAHK. even i see HSSH more on TV than HAHK.
And yeah sholay and DDLJ are kinda classics, though none of the movies are thatt good. Recently I met few germans and when i asked them about BW, DDLJ was the movie they had seen. It's obviously more famous.
