Other than saree, the puberty ceremony and baby shower, don't we celebrate all the others for boys too?
Actually I kind of like Saree/ Half- saree ceremony and Baby shower, they kind of make sense as they are happy occasions I guess, but its the hitting puberty one that pisses me off, its like announcing the whole world about a girls personal change😡

yes, they do. infact as girls have saree ceremony, boys do have pancha kattu(dhoti) ceremony😆

what is half saree ceremony for??

I think in olden days this was supposed to be the puberty ceremony but now people are looking for more ways have parties and spend lavishly ( specially in places like Hyderabad ) so they are adding another one in to the never ending list😆
For example half saree is now celebrated at an age of 9 or 11 ( I think they have this in odd years, not sure why though) So that they can have another party in another couple of years for the actual puberty😆

Significance in Coming of age ceremony[edit]

Main article: Half-Sari Ceremony

In South India Coming of age ceremony or rites of passage (Langa Voni Telugu: , Pattu Pavadai Tamil: , Langa Davani Kannada: ) is celebrated when a girl reaches puberty. She wears Langa Voni given by her maternal grandparents, which is worn during the first part of the ceremony and then she is given her first Sari by her paternal grandparents, which she wears during the second half of the ceremony. This marks her transition into womanhood.

The tradition of giving Langa Voni by maternal grandparents begins with the girl's first naming ceremony Namakaran and her first rice feeding ceremony called Annaprashana. She receives her last one at her coming of age ceremony. Langa Voni is traditional clothing for unmarried girls in South India.

no no, my grand mother says that, they do have two ceremonies, half saree ceremony will be organized by maternal grandparents and later was paternal or parents😆

and she used to say, that was their way of announcing(puberty ceremony) in their relatives, "we have a girl ready for marriage in our home", so please keep in mind. agar achcha ladka hain toh bata dena please😆

our celebrations starts from the 21st day of our birth (for girls)

craddle ceremony, naming ceremony, toli adugulu (first steps/walk), gadapa datadam (crossing the threshold), Annaprasana (Frist Rice), Aksharabhyas, half saree ceremony, hitting puberty, engagement, marriage, reception and seemantham(baby shower)😆

Ceremonies and rituals are tooo much in Indian culture...I mean even in a single wedding, I guess there must be at least 50 rituals...
