The scene where Veera and Mahabir are in Spiti and she is staring at the mountains and strikes a conversation with him on mountains, whimsically wondering how it would feel to actually go upto them...and Mahabir, pauses for a moment (that is his character...he thinks before reacting unlike Veera who reacts and then ponders on what she has done or said) simply says, 'Chal'! Veera's look of joy and amusement on the fact that he is actually taking her there and Mahabir's saradonic response to her enthusiasm!😆
I thought it was one of the sweetest scenes in the movie...so typically Veera and Mahabir...she makes a childish demand and he agrees without questioning. Nothing romantic...yet so profound and poignant. A beautiful way of showing the characters progression in the story and how they have come to understand and trust each other.
It would be a tragedy if the film doesn't make money...Immy would go back to making candy floss romance instead of films that he is actually capable of making!
PS: Some of Alia's best moments in the film are when she is shown all by herself...staring vacantly at the space ahead...her face was like a Canvas with a myraid variety of colors filling it! What a discovery Imtiaz has made with Highway...I don't think it would even have passed Karan Johar's mind that his favorite protegee actually had it in her to enact such a role.

Loved that scene brilliant acting by Randeep there 👏

It a low budget movie with 800 screen release so they are in the plus already

Yes I did! And I was duly impressed. I think it' s the first time in a Hindi movie. 😃

Hooda was perfection.

And the way he looks at Alia ( initially he never even looked at her) from the corner of his shoulder, half-hiding, half-aggressive.. Almost like he was shocked at what he did, but was still "standing up" to it. And to her. A tiny girl that he thinks of as a gigantic figure of all the rich men of the world who've wronged him.

I really want to read how Hooda got into the skin of this one.

And on his clothes. And his shoes were properly scuffed. And clothes were from the edges, balckened. 😆

Imtiaz completely put his foot down at the mention of any kind of scarring. 😆

Yes ,good. A little face in your face.

His character had enough scars to make up for any & all physical scarring. 😆

or was he talking abt himself as the third person who died?🤓

ahh the closing shot is just not leaving me as yet...😳

Me loves rockstar music more than highway as a standalone album..but the placement of songs of highway in the movie and the overall effect left by the songs in the movie and the movie on the songs - is way way way way better than rockstar⭐️

YES! I felt that too.. His answer didn't ring true when he tells Veera that she's in the village. It was obvious to me he was stalling for time.

The way he spoke about his Mum , it seemed like she had already passed away.

I can understand then that sheer torment that seared his voice & soul. Maybe that really was the cross to bear.

GOD I WANT TO READ WHAT IMTIAZ HAS TO SAY ABOUT THIS!!!!

Maybe he actually did kill his mother and that was why his mommy issues were so obvious. Perhaps he wanted to free his mother from the world. And he wants to convince himself that his mother lives. That was why he did not say it out loud. Because as long as he does not say it, it's not true.
He wanted to protect his mother from the world, the same way he was furious when Adoo tries to molest Veera. In his mind, Veera and his mother became interchangeable.

Damn you Imtiaz Ali. 😡 What have you done to me?

I know. I know. I can't stop thinking about this movie. I woke up & the first thing I did was to come on here.

This is exactly what I came up with too, like Hiral-Halwa.

I feel he did kill his mother. That's also why they didn't show any sort of passion except the slow, simmering kind & no sexual manifestation of it, because for him, Veera= his (dead) mother.

The cradling made it all the more obvious.

I also don't think he killed his mother. I was just trying to speculate a bit. 😆
This movie screws with your head or what?
Anyway, perhaps his mother was molested by more than one man.Because he explicitly gestures to a collective whole. Not one particular "bade Saab".So, that may also add to the body count.
I also don't mind if he killed his mother.
I understand why he would have done it. But that is not likely, given the fact that he is the protective kind. In his mind, I feel, he convinced himself that he was to blame for his mother's spiritual death, because he could not do anything. The famous, "Onnay je kore aar onnay je sohe.." from Tagore.
I have a feeling that he may also gesture to the spiritual death of his mother. Perhaps, his mother is just alive, but does not really live. That happens to rape victims. He feels that he has contributed to that symbolic death. And it came out of him in anger- he knows that his mother is as good as dead. Yes, he will not speak of his own death, but maybe he is talking about his mother's symbolic death. And as Alia says at the end, " Main jaa chuki ho.." He also knows that his mother has left.

Hmmm. Or this. That he didn't actually kill her, but feels as responsible, as if he had, because of what has happened to his mother. Her repeated abuse at the hands of the Big People.

Hmmm ok... I need to stop.

Damn you, Imtiaz Ali. Damn you. I can't get Mahabir Bhanni out of my head. 😡

going by reviews, it seems Randeep Hooda has acted wonderful,
(as usual) but come awards season and we know who is going
to get all the acclaim..Alia (star Bhatt).

The only smaller (commercially) stars able to break the mold and
snatch a well deserved award away from an udeserving but star
bigshot wala recipient is RajKumarYadav for Shahid who actually
GOT awarded instead of a mooh bola nomination and Irrfan Khan
who however, is a star in his own right due to his international projects.

I watched it...finally.
I still have a lump in my throat, my cheeks sting from the tears, and I am out of breath, thought and words.

...I'll be back after calming down :(
