Here's the deal
1) BOI is faceless. It has no friends in the industry, no production houses to suck up to, no favors needed from stars to come to their shows. Faceless and unbiased.
2) They have a system in place unlike all these other trade analysts. They take into account everything, the cost the distributors pay to acquire the film, the number of screens, the collections.
So when a YJHD does 186 cr it is a huge surprise to the trade because the film is sold relatively cheap, is released on lesser screens than a money spinner like CE which is sold at massive prices and is expected to do massive business. Its not bias towards YJHD, its just a pleasant surprise.
3) They get there data directly from theatre owners. TA, Koimoi and every other analyst uses the producers figures which I have absolutely no confidence in.
For these three reasons BOI > Any other data collection site.
a) I have no idea why Dabangg was robbed of its ATBB tag, I feel that's wrong. BOI should address that.
b) Rangeela was never a big hit. Like all RGV films including Satya, Shiva, Bhoot etc it only did business in Mumbai and the South and was plain average everywhere else.
Umm. BOI is not faceless. People in the industry know who runs that site and many neutrals believe they are not worthy of a halo over their head. Also they don't get all their data from theatre owners. Majority of the data comes from distributors and some from Exhibitors even after which many screens are still left unreported and they just assume what the figure would have been their looking at the occupancy in the nearby centres.
