Main reason is that SDR has witty dialogues, Lootera hardly had anything funny. SDR despite not being a conventional rom-com is more lighthearted than Lootera.

That being said, Aashiqui 2 is one of the biggest successes of the year and that film never looked like a happy, fun rom-com for even one second. It also has a sad ending. Now yes, the songs are SUPER successful, but films don't work as well as A2 did just because of songs.

There have been articles about how suddenly sad endings are "in." KPC, A2, Raanjhanaa all had sad endings. They worked.

Lootera looked boring. SDR looks fun..it's a film made for the youth just like YJHD was.

Like everyone said SDR is today's youth movie and looked very colorful on screen...Haven't seen SDR yet but I loved Lootera and became fan of Sonakshi after watching it...

There is such thing called Artsy film and Commercial flicks. From Raanjhana, Aashqiui 2, KPC or SDR. All fall into later category.

Yet they aren't "typically" commercial either. SDR has been praised for breaking every BW cliche. If there's one thing Raanjhanaa is not, it's typical. KPC is also very very subtle about everything...and let's face it, BW is not fond of subtle. A2's ending makes it atypical also.
