What made SDR work and Lootera flop?

Both movies have newer stars debuting less than 5 years ago. But Lootera had several advantages over SDR-a heroine who is a major star with 4-5 100cr hits, Ranveer who has lots of hype for being one of the earliest YRF male debutant as well as for his relationship with Anushka/Sonakshi/Deepika plus for doing SLB's film. Lootera's music was a lot more successful and the movie is directed by Motwane who is an award winning director. SDR music wasnt as successful and Maneesh isnt as huge among the critics as Motwane is. Parineeti isnt as huge as Sonakshi-BO wise and neither as pretty as her while SSR is just one film old with a lot less hype than Ranveer had since his debut in 2010. So what made SDR work and Lootera flop?

One had more peppy songs. Could easily connect with youth of today. Was more colourful film with bright characters. And awesome locations. More commercialised pricduct

We often talk about how the general public wants to watch a film to get rid of their daily stress and to have fun. This scenario applies to Shudd Desi Romance and Lootera.

The overall setting of both films.

SDR was more colourful, light-hearted, and fresh whereas Lootera seemed more dark, artsy-type of film. SDR was promoted as a youth-centric kinda movie so it did well.

I haven't seen SDR. But what I from the promos it seems like a zesty, feel-good movie. There is color, fun, peppy dialogues.
Lootera had a morbid and melancholy vibe which probably put off many viewers. People do not like to go and watch movies which make them feel more depressed than than in their daily lives

Lootera (like Udaan) had a deep subject which required more of the viewer where as SDR is more of a romcom, romcoms always do better business because they don't leave the viewer emotional. I haven't seen SDR yet so can't say much. Lootera isn't a film which is for everyone as simple as that. SDR has more of a relatable factor and the fact that it was promoted as a fun peppy movie not an intense love story like Lootera was.
