I will admit I was wrong ( tho I rarely am 😆)

I guess Madras Cafe had enough in it to be a success 👏

Now Shoojit Sircar isn't just a one hit wonder now he can build a career

maybe John can have a great career also

Good content triumphs... yet again!

By Taran Adarsh, August 27, 2013 - 09:39 IST

2013 is proving to be one of the most lucrative years for films that defy stereotype. Films that dare to swim against the tide. Films that go against the rules of the game... Just when everyone thought that masala movies = big bucks, films like TABLE NO. 21, ABCD - ANY BODY CAN DANCE, KAI PO CHE, MERE DAD KI MARUTI, JOLLY LLB, CHASHME BADDOOR, AASHIQUI-2, FUKREY, RAANJHANAA, BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG, B.A. PASS and now MADRAS CAFE have set the cash registers jingling. Starting on an ordinary note, MADRAS CAFE has indeed packed a solid punch in its opening weekend, thus proving yet again that you cannot stop high-quality content from hitting the bull's eye.

MADRAS CAFE was in the news, courtesy the protests against the film. That could be one of the reasons why a lot of people were inquisitive about its content. But, ultimately, a film triumphs because of its merits and MADRAS CAFE grew steadfastly and consistently with each passing day because the spectators gave their mandate. The appreciative reviews by critics and the tremendous word of mouth have ensured a triumphant run at the BO.

Viacom18's clever strategy of targeting the multiplexes and select single screens was most appropriate. For, MADRAS CAFE is not the kind of film that should be released in 2500 or 3000 screens. Even in the past, Viacom18 products like KAHAANI, CHASHME BADDOOR and of course, BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG had worked big time because of the correct release strategy and accurate signals being transmitted to spectators vis-a-vis the subject matter. Eventually, once a film reaches the public domain, the content does the talking and the content of those films as well as MADRAS CAFE only signifies that there's so much to look forward to beyond masala fares.

Also, a word of appreciation for John Abraham, Shoojit Sircar and Ronnie Lahiri, the producers of MADRAS CAFE. First VICKY DONOR. Now MADRAS CAFE. I, like most viewers, would like to doff my hat to th

Madras Cafe Holds Fairly Well On Monday

Tuesday 27th August 2013 11.00 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Madras Cafe held up fairly well on Monday as it collected in the 2.75-3 crore nett range making its four day total to around 24.50 crore nett. The film has advantage of a holiday on Wednesday which help its cause and take the first week figure to around 32 crore nett.

The film will get hit on Friday as a big film like Satyagraha is coming but Madras Cafe has appreciation amongst the audience that watches films at premium multiplexes so should pick up again on Saturday.

The film should comfortably cross the 40 crore nett mark and remains to be seen if it can get near or even go over 50 crore nett.

Madras Cafe Monday Collection. Holds Well.

Madras Cafe has passed the dreaded Monday Box Office. No doubt Madras Cafe has performed well in its first weekend but it has to pass the Monday Test at box office for longevity. Those films that generally do well in multiplexes tend to show big drop on weekdays. That was not the case for Madras Cafe. Film has collected a very decent 3-3.25 crore nett on Monday as per estimates. Film total collection now stands at around 24.65 crore nett mark.

MC registered a drop of around 35-40% from Friday. Which is pretty normal. Drop is significant of around 65% from Sunday, but it is to note that Sunday collection for the film was huge. Madras Cafe will now aim to collect around 32-33 crore nett in its first week which will be good achievement by the film of such genre.

From next week Satyagraha is releasing and hence, collections will get affected of MC. But because of the content power film should move ahead and still film has the chance of crossing 50 crore nett in its lifetime.

Collection Breakup -

Friday - 5.21 crore nett.
Saturday - 7.28 crore nett.
Sunday - 8.9 crore nett.
Monday - 3-3.25 crore nett (Estimates).

Total - 24.64 crore nett.

Madras Cafe Holds Well On 1st Monday At The Box Office

Madras Cafe began moderately at the box office. However, the film picked up very well on the weekend, taking its opening weekend collections to 21 crores at the Domestic Box Office. Moreover, the films collections held on strongly on its 1st Monday. The film on its 1st Monday raked up a collection of 3 crores and now the income has snowballed to 24 crores at the Box Office.

John Abraham Madras Cafe Movie Stills

Made on a lavish budget, this Shoojit Sircar film is deemed to be one of Indias most commendable political thrillers. Gritty and nail -biting, the film has received rave reviews but lacks commercial content to be a mass puller. The positive word of the mouth however is working well for it and the film will surely do good business in the urban zones and multiplex regions!
