7 reasons why Chennai Express can break BO records

1. Garnering one of the widest release overseas / International markets

Starting off, what ensures a film's success is not only the lead actors, the script or the story, but even the release, and the market share captured by it. It's been reported umpteen times by now that the makers, UTV Motion Pictures and Red Chillies, are releasing Chennai Express in more theaters than any other Bollywood movie in the history of Indian cinemas overseas. In fact, the movie is releasing in 50+ countries and in 700+ screens which makes it the widest simultaneous world release for an Indian film. Apart from this, the film will also be releasing in Morocco, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Peru and Israel and that too on the same day and date.

2. Festive release date

Besides having the biggest worldwide release, the smart minds at the production houses are capitalizing on the festive weekend of Eid, which happens to be one of the biggest festivals in many Muslim countries like Gulf, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Now consider this, with the fact that in such territories almost no films releases during Ramzan, and the queue of release post the culmination of the holy month, coupled with the massive number of screens and not forgetting Khan's massive fan base, the film is a sure shot winner.

Commenting on the global release of the film, Amrita Pandey, Executive Director - Syndication, International Distribution & Disney Media Distribution, Studios, Disney UTV says, "There's been an obvious and huge demand for Chennai Express across cinemas worldwide. In many countries, Eid - school mid-term holidays have made next weekend one of the busiest in terms of number of English and international language releases. In such a week, the number of screens, locations and shows we've secured for this movie gives it the right footprint."

3. Multi-lingual release and promotions

The hot news that is just in is that Chennai Express will be seeing one of the biggest releases ever for an Indian film as it will be dubbed in not one or two but ten different languages - English, French, Spanish, Arabic, German, Hebrew, Dutch, Turkish and Malay. Besides, the film will be subtitled in other languages as well. Apart from dubbing the film in these languages, even the promotional materials (posters etc.) have been localized.

Commenting on the massive linguistic release, Amrita Pandey says, "Chennai Express is a commercial entertainer and has an obvious and enormous demand overseas with the Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan's fanbase. We are happy to provide Indian movie lovers an opportunity to enjoy the movie in the language known to them and are excited to release Chennai Express in 10 languages."

4. Increased ticket prices

Coming back to the Indian market, last week there were reports that said that multiplexes across the country would be hiking the ticket rates for the film. Interestingly, the intended rate hike would imply audience shelling out an extra 40% on weekdays and 20% on weekends for the film. With this rate hike opening day figures are sure to jump, thus giving a much needed boost to overall collections.

As for the skeptics who feel that this same hike might result in low turnout at screens, though there may be a certain amount of truth to it, consider the fact that SRK has an equally big, if not bigger, fanbase in India as that of the other two Khans - Aamir and Salman. Also, it is to be noted that the Eid release date has till now been dominated by his rival Salman Khan.

5. Local screen hijacking

Another factor that will definitely give Chennai Express the edge is the massive screen capturing that recently created a furor in Mumbai. Chennai Express will be released in 3500 screens across the country, as compared to Ek Tha Tiger which had just 3320 screens across India and yet managed to garner Rs 32.93 crore on Opening Day. Looking at this, Chennai Express is well on its way to breaking this record, coupled with the increased ticket rate and the number of screens.

6. Cast and director par excellence

Though we should have started off with this massive point, we decided to consider it further down the list, knowing that it's a given when evaluating any film. Chennai Express boasts of not one but three major names that include Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and of course director Rohit Shetty. With the three combined fan bases, the film is certain to see an unprecedented turn out of followers flocking screens.

7. Dismal releases in the run up to Eid

Last but not the least, a film's success also depends on the number of other films releasing with it, before it and after it. In case of Chennai Express, the two weeks before the film's release have witness rather dismal performances from films like Luv U Soniyo, Rabba Main Kya Karoon, Bajatey Raho, Nasha, B. A. Pass etc. to name a few. The only strong competition Chennai Express might face is that from the Farhan Akhtar starrer Bhaag Milkha Bhaag that has been going great guns for the past three weeks.

On the other hand, being a solo release (not leaving any choice for the audience) with a week before the next film (which again is a giant Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobaara), it's a no brainer that Chennai Express will if not break then come close to breaking many records.

From the above mentioned factors, we at Bollywood Hungama have tried to encompass most of elements that could definitely contribute to making Chennai Express the all time record breaking film. If you know any other factor that could also work in the film's favour, that we might have missed, post it in the comments section below.

CHENNAI EXPRESS Is Outstanding Entertainer

Pluses:

Shahrukh Khan is back in OSO & Main Hoon Na form with outstanding performance, Deepika is surprise package with some real hilarious dialogues, Nikitin Dheer career will get boost after this film, Sathyaraj is good so is Mukesh Tiwari, Editing is strongest point, songs lift the spirit, dialogues are hilarious, director mixes all elements in right proportion

Minuses:

Film takes time to warm up, shooting locales are not at par with big films of SRK, script takes too many turns in due course

Critic Rating:
3.5/5

Business Rating:
4.5/5

Verdict:

Watch it for paisa vasool entertainment and superb cast/crew

Detail Analysis:

If it is a Shahrukh Khan release then excitement soars to new heights no matter what is the genre or what is the occasion. But after not so great spell in last few years at domestic box office, he teams up with director Rohit Shetty who has mastered box office, this excitement goes through the roof. On top of that Deepika Padukone adds brownie point after super successful YJHD.

Film has rather simple but interesting plot (and we will not reveal much as always been the case). Rahul (Shahrukh) goes on to a journey of his lifetime where he meets Meena (Deepika) and how his meeting with her changes his life completely. Tangaballi (Nikitin Dheer) who is good friend of Durgeshwara (Sathyaraj) puts forth every possible hurdle. But all the fun, song and dance make this journey an experience full of entertainment or we say dhamaal!

Performance wise Shahrukh Khan excels and excels big time. His comic timing and aura simply lift the film to another level. If this is not his best comic performance then certainly one of the best. He is back as hero for masses and how! The way Shahrukh takes you as fun narrator through the film is hilarious in itself! Deepika surprises in every frame and she is real surprise package of the film. Her accent and comic timing are top notch. This is her 2nd big performance in 2013 after YJHD. Nikitin Dheer makes a mark with intense performance and so is veteran south actor Sathyaraj. Mukesh Tiwari and Kamini Kaushal fit the bill in brief roles. Also be ready for few surprising supporting performances and cameos.

Music was not plus point before release but be assured that after watching it you will bound to change your opinion. Title song and "Titli" look best and positioned well. Vishal - Shekhar deserve all kudos for their work. Action always been a high point of Rohit SHetty cinema and he doesn't disappoint you this time either. Watch out for post interval portion, two mind blowing sequences. Editing is one thing which keeps film so breezy that you hardly blink before its over. Cinematography is decent but not so overwhelming location leave you wanting for more.

But it is director Rohit Shett who keeps proceedings racy and his command over providing the right mix of entertainment makes this special. There is a song followed by super dialogue and then some nail biting action - take a bow masala king! This will be by far the best work of Rohit Shetty.

Overall this is a film which belongs to distinct and lethal combo of Rohit Shetty and SRK. 1st half is very comic an light hearted and at interval point when SRK - Deepika elope from Deepika's house, the fun begins. It has item song but that is not vulgar like many other films in same genre, it has comedy but not slapstick like many other films of same genre, it is entertaining but not as mindless as many other films in same genre. This is a complete entertainer and surely win the heart of masses. But film's success will be decided by how well classes take it and how much film sustains on weekdays.

Go for this paisa vasool entertainer - a sure shot winner!

Deepika Padukone outshines SRK in 'Chennai Express'

Boarding 'Chennai Express' comes with its own set of challenges.

Firstly, it's tough to overlook a filmmaker's real intentions, despite a disclaimer about not intending to mock a community, when his jokes are entirely focused on just one region.

Secondly, he unapologetically relies on Bollywood stereotypes, where South Indians speak in a twang that's over-the-top and completely incomprehensible even to South Indians.

Thirdly, director Rohit Shetty is unable to differentiate between neighbouring South Indian states Kerala and Tamil Nadu. In one song, he plugs the dance forms of one state even when it isn't pitched there.

Fourthly, there's a famous track on the 'lungi' dance, even when none of the characters ever dress in one. Instead, they wear the traditional 'mundu' (a white sarong that's respectable men's attire).

But, logic isn't something that we'd associate with this breed of comedies, but, despite these obvious slip-ups, Rohit Shetty's 'Chennai Express' manages to chug along.

K Subash's story starts when forty-something Rahul, who finally sets out to live his life, abruptly bumps into pretty Meenamma.

She's from the South, born into a highly influential criminal family, while he's from the North, born into a rich family that feeds off a sweets business.

Their unplanned train journey forcefully ends at her notorious hometown.

What begins then is a madcap adventure as he tries to escape from the clutches of the gangsters, and she from a marriage she doesn't approve.

Rohit plays to the gallery and lifts many iconic Bollywood situations and invests immensely in buffoonery. He's even got writers Farhad and Sajid pen numerous inane one-liners that mock his and Shah Rukh Khan's earlier movies.

The method isn't novel, but is definitely chuckle-worthy. At least, some of it is.

But Rohit's uneasiness is evident when he's forced to restrict his trademark action thrills to a few scenes, and focus on the funnier escapades instead.

He even changes tracks mid-way, hoping to ride on SRK's famed romantic image, and prompts him to crinkle his nose, flaunt his dimples and directs much attention to his legendary gaze, but with so much madness going around it's tough to take anything serious.

That said, it's Deepika Padukone, who manages to overshadow SRK with her incredible beauty, cute dimples and a consistently over-the-top accent.

Despite being given a character that could easily turn into a caricature, she manages glamour and comedy well. That's an incredible feat considering she's just a few films old.

That said, Rohit obviously gives Shah Rukh immense attention, allowing him to display his vintage antics, and spread his arms in his trademark style at many occasions. Evidently these are crowd-pullers, so SRK loyalists won't be disappointed.

It's notable how Rohit even allots space for Tamil dialogues that are spoken with just as much earnestness as Hindi. That's surely a first in a Bollywood frame.

In fact, Rahul would be Rohit's first hero who doesn't possess superhero powers, and instead cowers when instigated to fight.

It's endearing at times, but the jokes are repeated so often that they lose shine.

Rohit's carnival-like comedy coaxes some laughs, but can leave you exhausted. Make no mistake, 'Chennai Express' is fun, but the kind that Rohit endorses.

Here's why Chennai Express will get the BIGGEST OPENING EVER

Shah Rukh Khan's latest film Chennai Express is all set to race ahead at the box office and break all records when it releases on August 9. Here's why.

1. Shah Rukh Khan

The magnitude of SRK's celebrity is unfathomable.

His last home production Ra.One may have ended up as a fiasco and Jab Tak Hai Jaan may have had to make do with lukewarm response but the buzz for Chennai Express has been bigger than for any other film in the recent past.
