if this is true then bollywood should shut up. if 80 percent movies are getting flopped every year. where is the industry taking place...this is very shocking and embarrassing. and still producers are flooding so much money on baseless concepts and ideas

Q. Would it be correct to say that 80% of Hindi films flop every year and how many would this be in number count?

A. It is correct. 20% of movies succeed to varying degrees, another 20% are flops and the rest 60% are disasters which the audience hardly knows about let alone watching them. As far as numbers it differs every year but if we take 2012 its 150 odd releases, 30 films covered costs or earned money, 30 films lost substantial amounts while 90 films lost their total investment or close to total investment.

May be the producers believe in "happy end" for their movies (exactly like 90% of Hindi movies).

For any industry to sustain and make money free flow of talent should be allowed. BW is a very incestous and closed industry. Only few people are allowed in and failures are covered. But lots of people have black money which they need to convert to white and BW gives them this outlet and hence the industry carries on.

Bollywood is so far behind not only in tech but business wise too.

with a population of 1 billion the biggest hit in India Cinema has made 202 cr which is 40 mil $😕

even the biggest flops in Hollywood make more than that!

When i read the title initially, i thought losses here in context to lives( Rajesh Khanna, Yash chopra, Rituparno ghosh), i din't think we were referring the monetary losses.

because new maker think partying dancing item girl will make there movies hit but gets flop

Stories never have innovations...No one give a good and decent movies to the new comers instead some trashy ones which r bound to be trashed .only few accidentally clicks
Moreover I agree that BW and IPL are the ventures where black money gets converted to white money

i don't understand one thing...many movies can be made under budgets and can easily recover their costs, and the question of losses shall rule out...then why to put these absurd kind of crores. even these multinational companies like reliance, UTV it doesn't make sense becoz they are losing more annually than gaining.
