Oh I loved this scene too...fantastically done...and these were the surprising moments where their chemistry came out so STRONGLY...and you can see that there is an unusual chemistry b/w this seemingly odd pair...I think the intensity surprised me as well...in this scene as well as the climax scene when he holds her face again and tells her she isn't being able to go through with her charade.

I loved the picturization of all the songs...all of the songs were used over montage scenes in the movie...they moved the story forward...in the second half, I loved the picturization of "aise na dekho" the most

exactly! that was the scene when the intense chemistry came out. oh the chemistry was evident throughout the movie, in the beginning when she agreed to meet him and found out that he was Hindu, the proximity of the situation showed ke chemistry tou hai but that scorching wali chemistry came in this scene and the pre-climax scene when she sent him off and he held her to make her get a grip on herself...

I didn't like Aise Na Dekho when i heard it on the album but the picturization of it made me like it. the director was right, A.R Rahman comprised the basic premise of the movie in the song Tum Tak. I already loved this song but listening to it after I finished watching the movie...the song moved me in so many ways. specially those instrumental parts of the song which played throughout the movie..

"jaana hai paar tere, tu hi bhanvar hai...pohche gi paar kaise...naazuk si naiyyaa..tum tak"

major goosebumps and literal tears I tell you!!!

Finally got to watch it.🥳
I had high expectations from this one. The first thing that hit me when I watched the promos was Dhanush. I rarely connect with an actor so quickly...but it happened in this case. He seemed special because he looked so ordinary, he seemed special because I could see his emotions on his face. Add to that the music, the milieu, the crisp dialogues, the rawness. Raanjhanaa indeed looked like a special film.
And it is. In many ways. It has more or less delivered everything that the promos promised. The narrative is surprisingly honest. All the characters have their share of flaws and seem very real. There is not much novelty in the plot. But that does not really matter. I could believe in Kundan and that was enough for me. The second half did not deviate from the original storyline. In fact it was inevitable. Raanjhanaa is more about atonement than love, though it is love that is the driving force behind. The only complaint I have is the way politics is depicted. It looked amateurish and just a little silly. More so, the way Kundan climbs the ladder in AICP and the apparent threat he poses to the ruling party. I was not very convinced. Had these parts been more believable and dealt with as much honesty, the climax could have been much more impactful. On the other hand, I loved the chemistry between Zoya and Kundan in these portions. Aise na dekho...
Dhanush owns this film. No words are enough to describe his performance as Kundan. It seemed to me as if he was born to play this role. I think I am going to watch his other films now. He definitely has a fan in me.😆 Sonam's act could have been much better. But still, I think she has the correct sort of personality to play Zoya. Just like Swara and Zeeshan do to play Bindiya and Murari. Fab actors, these two.
Another thing that I loved about the film is the way it portrays the social/cultural differences between Zoya and Kundan. I don't think the class disparity between two lovers was more realistically depicted in any Hindi movie.
Overall, a very good experience. And I feel that it might get better with repeat viewing.😃

IMO, director fails somewhere to reveal the reason of Abhay's death,..

perhaps he dies due to the same two political goon CM leader's tact-trap
or
whether he suicides afterwards,
or
whether he was still suffering form the same hit and injury and died later and so soon, thereafter.

If first part was enjoyable and refreshing, the second half brings the intensity to the love story. The film is a narration by the character "Kundan" and Zoyz's 8 years of life is as unknown to audience as it was for Kundan. The unpredictability of the second plot therefore make so much sense. Zoya too had her own life and that's why totally contrasting plot fits perfectly. One has to see it as Kundan's story. Dhanush as Kundan was pulse of the movie. What a fab actor. Dhanush did total justice to it and Sonam is impressive too. Last scene between zoya and kundan was the most powerful scene. I just cant get enough of that scene. can watch it numerous times.

Totally overwhelmed by the depth of the characters in the movie and the title Raanjhana is so apt for the movie !!! A must watch...

The reason being,... the way the movie takes turn ( gears up ) and holds on a crystal clear love and hate relationship story going on,.. in a nice and its own way,…. in strata and atmos. of varanasi,...( I had rather chose movie iishaqzaade over this, in this regard ) then ppl do not wanna see that freaking political garbage,…. like the movie aarakshan, and expect the movie all the way, like that kamal hasan's " ek duje ke liye " story like,..on a one to one heartiest feelings and love, hate, anger, harsh going on,.. in its own way,...in the same galiyaan and chobaaraa,,...

and even the second star entry of Abhay is also at the verge of,..utmost disgusting point,... n' remains irritating, when ppl do not expect him the least to appear on screen even,..., to even get enter into this movie on a one to one on-going story line,...

and it sounded like,…. as if, inserting a Rishi kapoor in Kamala hasan's ek duje ke liye,... ( where Kamal remained a monopolized lead of the film,.. ) but still the director drags you into that political garbage of current roles of Arwind Kejariwal and Sheela Dixit's indirect posed fakes,….. and clearly loses the tract in Banaaras ( gailyaan- chobara- nukkads ) the climate that was so finely created,……

guys can anyone explain why Kundan taped her face and what he said when zoya confessed her love..it went over my head😕

Kundan taped her mouth because he wanted to take her to Punjab to Jasjeet and she'd just spat in his face so to avoid any more trouble he basically abducted her...lol

The ending scene when Zoya confessed her love...she was basically lying...and Kundan saw through that...that is why he told her that she was doing her charade so well uptill that point but she fumbled in the end...and she started crying because he saw through that.

I think, none of the song was so great, except on the screen with its on-going live climate and forwarding the story ahead so nicely,
telling line by line with the on-going situation on screen,... but other than that,
I had not prefer listening any songs in my car as audio alone,... they all were good on screen with video,.. but in plain audio,... while driving car,... absolute No No,...

Exactly,.. as I explained in my previous post.
Few vulg dialects and Ch**aa words spoken
especially in close talk with female stars standing next, I did not like in the movie and that deviated movie from a family type one, ( I dunno whether it was censored in Indian theaters )

hi anu ..

am loving all of the discussion going on here...seriously this movie has to be watched again ...
and the last conversation scene between zoya and kundan..no words to express how good it was..sheer brilliance..

guess we need to open a discussion thread on ranjhanaa... 😆

Hi Nithya, I totally agree that the movie is even better on a second watch...although the first watch is fun if you avoid spoilers and don't know the twists and turns coming up...but on second watch you can appreciate the nuances even more...there is so much sensitivity in the way some things have been shown.

And word to what you said about this movie being more about ATONEMENT than love...especially the second half...and yes that last convo b/w Zoya and Kundan...the more I watch it, the more I love it...Dhanush is OUTSTANDING, man...👏👏👏...the emotion in Kundan's eyes there...wow.

At some points, Dhanush's heavy accent does hamper the dialogues which is why I'm saying on second watch I could understand what he was trying to say a bit better...but even despite the language barriers, this man is such a genius actor that the language challenges never bog him down...he's a complete natural...and totally sinks into his character...he proves that talent transcends all barriers...language, culture, everything...his talent forces you to become a fan...you have no other choice😆
