18 is norm for uni, but I know someone at MIT who was 17 when they were in their freshman year. Its extremely rare though...16 is even younger..unless she's about to turn 17 soon. 😕

Kids generally graduate high school in the US at 17 or 18. Getting into college at 17 is nothing out of the ordinary, since kids usually accept admission a few months before graduation.

And on a similar note, I also do know of some cases where people who moved from abroad graduated when they were 16 (turning 17 soon after graduation), because they were able to circumvent the general age eligibility guidelines and continue on with the the Grade/Standard they were studying before moving to the US.

17 isn't big. I got into uni at 17. But I always thought 16 is somewhat rarer...especially given that Columbia is a top Ivy League.

And technically one could still get in at 16, I don't know if it is open for students abroad but if one is smart enough to be accepted in Early Admission.
