when i saw him in saawariya i knew there was something special about him...i will not say he's a versatile actor yet, but he's not afraid to take risks...would be interesting to see him an action movie...

Ranbir is a good actor. Nobody can take that away.

But it's too early to call him a superstar. Cause yes, you hear girls squealing "RANBEEER OMG Ranbir! *Thud Thud Thud*" but you don't see the guys giving him the sort of attention they give Salman, Akshay and Aamir.

Current heartthrob of the female population might be fitting (Though I think Aditya Roy Kapoor might have dethroned him o'rdy)

Let's take Akshay Kumar's and Ajay Devgan's first 6 years' record as well:

AKSHAY KUMAR -

1992 - Khiladi (among top 10 grossers of the year, second year of his debut taking 1991's Saugandh as his debut film)

1994 - Mohra (super hit), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (semi hit) - but TWO films in top 5 grossers of the year in 4th year of career. Two hero films, but Akki dominated them. Mohra's promos were dominated fully by Akshay's songs. And Mohra was just the second biggest hit of the year!

Another film Suhaag was #7 in top grossers of the year.

All in all 3 films in top 10 of the year in 4th year of career.

(Has Ranbir managed this?!)

1995 : Sabse Bada Khiladi - Hit (5th year of career, film in top 10 grossers of year, TOTAL SOLO hero film)

1996: Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi - Hit
(6th year of career, SOLO HERO film, excellent opener, again placed in top 10 grossers of the year)

Does Ranbir the superstar's record compare to Akshay's first 6 year record? Akshay did not even have any godfather to guide him or peddle him industry!

Now, AJAY DEVGAN:

1991- First film Phool Aur Kaante, SUPER HIT, top 5 hits of the year, SOLO HERO film

1992 - Jigar, Hit, among top 10 grossers of the year, SOLO HERO film
(Jigar was bigger than JJWS!)

1994 - Suhaag, Dilwale. Latter is a clean HIT. 2 films in top 10 grossers of the year. Vijaypath was 11th in top grossers of that year.
Diwale might have been a two hero film but its publicity was dominated by songs featuring Ajay and Raveena.

1995 wasn't that good for him. But his Haqeeqat and Gundaraj did get excellent openings and former was 11th in top grossers of year. SOLO HERO films.

1996 - Diljale, Solo Hero film, among top 10 grossers of the year. 6th year of career.

Among all actors, Ajay was the one who never got big banners' support until 1997/1998.

RANBIR KAPOOR:

Flop debut.

Bachna Ae Haseeno in top 10 grossers of second year of career 2008. Semi hit.

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Top 5 hits of year. Super hit. Solo hero film.
But likes of Akshay & Ajay gave their successes with emerging ladies like Raveena, Karisma while Ranbir worked with reigning superstar Katrina Kaif. Aamir when worked with Madhuri Dixit, leading actress of that time gave yearly top grosser. Ranbir only managed to scrape into Top 5 grossers thanks to Katrina.

2010 - Raajneeti, top 3 hits of the year. Super overcrowded film!! More peddled by hype around Katrina rumoured to be playing a character like Sonia Gandhi!! Absolute multi starrer.

2011 - Rockstar (BOI rated it as semi hit and it ranked 14th in their article listing Top hits of 2011)

2012 - Barfi, super hit. Solo Hero film. Top 5 hits of the year.

Ranbir has had unprecedented hype and PR machinery peddling him unlike Akshay or Ajay when they started out. He had 4 films in top yearly grossers till now. Akshay Kumar had 6 films placed in top 10 yearly grossers in same time frame in his career when he started out.
Ajay Devgan had 5 films in top 10 yearly grossers in same time frame as Ranbir after starting out his career.

Forget the Khans! Ranbir Kapoor LAGS BEHIND Akshay and Ajay ALSO if you compare first 6 years of career!!!

Superstar! Yeah right! 😉

Now to answer your response:

- Ranbir overshadowed everyone else in Raajneeti? That is a subjective point mostly peddled by media and fans. The film had hype because of possible references to Gandhi family, especially Katrina doing a Sonia Gandhi. And Manoj's Karara Jawaab Milega became the most famous dialogue from the film.
It's another matter media doled out awards to Kapoor laadla.

- Yes APKGK is mainly a Katrina Kaif success that is because all of Ranbir's films failed except this in same year and next (barring multistarrer Raajneeti).

Just as Madhuri Dixit is credited more for Dil than Aamir (because all his films failed before that except QSQT, failed after that too, or just about got average tag).

People can keep arguing about music, chemistry blah blah. But Ranbir had rumours of affairs with others also (he's linked to everyone!) yet those films did not do an APKGK.

And there is difference in SRK overshadowing Sunny Deol in Darr and Ranbir supposedly overshadowing others in Raajneeti. Sunny was on top and had a meaty role in Darr. Whereas Raajneeti did not have top superstars and Ajay's role was quite small in it.

Why does Ranbir shy away from two hero films? Dum hai toh overshadow a top star in an equally meaty role the way SRK chewed up Deol in Darr! Why did he refuse PK?! Scared of being "exposed" eh?
