Now where did he do that?

Is that the reason why you are doing more commercial films?
I got into a comfort zone where I felt I could do well. Now I feel I have grown. The market has grown from the time I had started. I would like to be more versatile to maximise the potential of a film.

People often call such films mindless potboilers.
Some of them are not mindless but entertaining. It requires heroism along with a great comic timing to make people laugh. You can't make people laugh by being mindless.

Seriously, where are you getting this assumption from? Where did he insult the audience?
He said "Sometimes I feel we can get away with a lot"
Just because despite a not so crisp second half, film managed to make 100 crores, perhaps due to the power of the franchise.

How did patriotism even enter this?
I'm from America, and I can apply the same rules here.
If Saif wasnt born in India, he might still have the traits you described.
You said he was born in the wrong country. Explain.

Before the release of AV, Saif says the following:

You said in an interview that Agent Vinod is a very special film for you as a producer as well as an actor. What makes this film so special?

I think Agent Vinod is the reason why I got into film production in the first place. We have taken close to two years to make this film and I promise you that we have done something special. I wanted to make Agent Vinod first, before Love Aaj Kal, but then we at Illuminati Films decided to make love Aaj Kal first because it seemed an easier film to make. Agent Vinod is my dream project and I am pleased to tell you that it has turned out really well. So far the films I have been selling as an actor were the ones into which I could barely introduce the changes I think are necessary in terms of presentation or treatment, but With Agent Vinod it is different. It gives me immense happiness to tell you that I took liberty in making what I believed in, this time around. I am confident of the final product and the way in which the film has publicised itself.

After the release and bombing of the movie he says this:

How much did the failure of Agent Vinod affect you?

As a producer if your film doesn't do well then people can lose financial and creative faith in you. I take the blame for it, but I feel Agent Vinod could have been a really fun and entertaining character. I would like to attempt something like Agent Vinod again, but with the right director. I feel some films limit themselves by not being as entertaining as they can be and Agent Vinod was that kind of a film.

But as producer, you had a say in it'

I had a lot of say in it. But ultimately, the director takes the call. But I feel it's important to keep your failures aside and keep rolling. We live in a competitive world and it's just not important to be good' you have to be consistently good.

Saif believed in a project, INVESTED 3 YEARS and his OWN MONEY into it.
And people rejected it so he felt that perhaps it wasnt made right.

Lets tar and feather the man.

And believe him when he says that ultimately the director takes the call.
As a producer, he also tried his best to take Kareena into Love Aaj Kal. But ultimately, becuase Imtiaz felt Deepika was right for it, he went with it.

So, if he feels a need to do a post-mortem on all his films after they have been released, why drag the directors and producers in to it. He could simply say that my judgement was not upto the par. But, "A different director could have made AV more entertaining" or "The script of Race2 was plastic" just seems like cavalier attitude to me. He isn't a child.

no matter how he criticizes, he will keep doing it as long as it is gaining numbers. the original race deserved this success IMO. the second one didn't even look it was directed by Abbas Mustan. the thriller format was a joke in this one.

He disses his own work. He disses his OWN ACTING.
He mocks his 90s work, says his voice, his acting, his hair, his looks, were embarrassing.
Says he worked on voice modulation.

That is just how Saif is. He'a always had a self depreciating sense of humor.
And why do we always find SOMETHING wrong with EVERYTHING that celebrities say?
I swear this is such an IF thing to do.
If a celebrity praises his or her film, I ASSURE YOU, this forum would mock them for it with digs and puns and jokes galore. The thread would be filled with snarky sarcastic responses.

For instance, if Kareena would have praised or defended a film of hers, she would have been bashed. Same with any celebrity.

And apparently, the opposite is also a crime.

Nothing any celeb says will ever be good enough on this forum. 😆

You just proved my point in the red highlighed bit. Before the film releases a film like Race2 is entertaining. After it makes it to the 100cr club it is a stupid film and the audience is too stupid to realize it.
And you have twisted my comments into turning it to a patriotism issue. People like Saif have a slave mentality like many Indians(and South Asians). What we do...what our audience likes is crap. Whatever westerners applaud is class. One of the psuedo intellectuals.
