@don12

Music does matter. I said music is not the be all and end all factor in deciding box office of a film. I hope it's clear.

Songs from Kalyug, Train etc. were successful but those films are not hits. Examples of many films are there which had hit music but were flops at box office.

Talking about music, wasn't Raja Hindustani a huge hit mainly because of its music? That's what I always heard. 😆

The production house is Aamir Khan Productions and Excel Entertainment. What happened to marketing genius Aamir then? Talaash is an AKP co-production! He went wrong in marketing it?

It's quality? It's got highly mixed reviews and nearly bad WOM. It is not even there in many best films lists and it's rated lower on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes (than what's expected from an Aamir film).

If quality only matters then will you maintain same stance for Dhoom 3? Dhoom movies are quality? And is D3 going to be huge due to Aamir? A star who didn't even give a clean hit in a solo starrer? It's a multi starrer franchise from the biggest banner. It could be be big hit with anyone in it!

Same excuses which SRK fans gave in other thread.

BTW this BO numbers game was started by Aamir only. He prided himself for making TZP among top 5 hits of the year. The crore clubs are also his making. Now he and his fans do a volte face and claim numbers don't matter or numbers obsession corrupted people because Talaash just about scraped in top 10!

SRK also did the same. Celebrated OSO's collections like crazy. Now claims he doesn't understand numbers!

Well said he started the 100 crore club with ghanjhi a masala south remake..he started the south remake trend..and marketing ip to that point no one cared on marketing

3i 200 crore club

The excuse is its Aamir hes quality etc,.he can o no wrong..sterotype which i dont like..yes hes good yes he chooses scripts that he thinks are good..but doesnt mean that hes always right..abd yes the supernatural angle ruined it to most people and others who wanted to see it but KRK etc..spoiled the plot some decided to give it a miss...though i knew there was a ghost element so it didnt shock me as there were reports on it ..and kareena was good so was worth the watch..and yes aamir too...but script was ok..rani was to OTT didnt like her..

Regarding dhoom 3 thats not quality at all its a mass movie a brand a masla ny actor in that movie will mke it big..it helped john..and he was better villian thn the OTT hamming Hrithik...sure aamir name will probably give it a great opening but anyone in this brand would be a success how much is the only answer...and yes the shaking assets chick will help with her glam but any chick in this movie would get success it helped esha etc...but since big names in it big budgets there too..but dhoom 3 isnt quality but massy

It's alright that Talaash couldn't achieve the 'hit' status. I did sense this early on when many were disliking the movie. Even the reviews weren't favorable (at least I think they weren't, can't remember now).

Like Blue-Ice said, the main problem with Talaash was the twist. It definitely was a W*F moment for many (at least those who didn't know the story, the people who knew didn't bother watching it) when Kareena turned out to be a ghost. I certainly wasn't expecting it and was left with a very confused expression.

But see, I'm a different case. I can enjoy any Aamir movie (except some from the early 90s and of course, MP) and Talaash for me was more of an emotional film than a supernatural thriller. Other people, the regular audience wouldn't view Talaash the same way. If they didn't like it, they didn't like it and it will reflect in the film's BO performance, unfortunately. 😒

The bottom line - the major flaw with Talaash was the twist. If there was any other twist besides the supernatural element, guaranteed this film would have crossed the 100 cr mark if it was able to cross the 90 cr mark with the ghost.

Anyway, Talaash was never my most awaited film of Aamir's from all his releases. There was excitement because it was Aamir's first major release after 3I but I always looked forward to Dhoom 3 and P.K. more than Talaash. Those I know will be successful entertainers!

Well said and I like how you being an aamir phan are very objective..😊👏

On other note:

pk i think is quality but dhoom massy but hey he will score big and people can say whatever numbers do hold value as well!.,

Maybe. I found both of them equally good. 😆 Aamir was adorable throughout.

Although yes, I read articles stating that back then people thought the movie should have been titled 'Rani Hindustani' or something like that. 😆😆

Aashiqui was a hit because of its music too.

Aamir was more a sidekick to Lolo they should have called Rani Hindustani 😆 but Aamir was good too 👍🏼

@Mysticgoryfilms

Dil Se had superhit music but it flopped. Music is a factor but not the main deciding factor of BO fate.

@wat-up

It's a false notion that no one cared about marketing before Ghajini. KKHH, KNPH, Lagaan, KMG, K3G, Krissh, RDB, OSO had great marketing campaigns which were documented in businss journals and made it as case studies in B-schools. OSO also received Best Marketed film of the decade award at 4Ps business awards if I am not mistaken.

I echo what wat-up said. I love your objectivity as a fan. 😊

Aamir was cute to look at in Raja Hindustani. But his MCP character put me off completely. So egoistic and not at all understanding towards his wife!

Raja Hindustani was considered more of a Karishma Kapoor success. She had string of superhits before the film and 2-3 more hits in the same year as Raja Hindustani released. Her makeover also attracted lot of attention. Lolo, kissing scene and music were reasons why it was massive. Though IMO it was a loud, regressive film which didn't deserve any success.

I'm always surprised how some good Aamir films didn't become hits whereas this one did!

First of all, thank you. 😊

And yes, I found RH loud and regressive as well - at least the second half. The first half was very enjoyable and cute! But the second half of RH was more enjoyable for me than the second half of films like Dil and Ishq. Oh, I also heard a long time ago it was more of a Karishma Kapoor success and really defined her career. I don't care, really. Aamir to me was a cute eye-candy in the film. And I only just look at him throughout. 😆

@bold: I agree. I would much prefer his films like JJWS and Earth being hits over RH.
