Talaash is listed as moderate success by Taran Adarsh and semi hit by BOI. It is not a clean hit.

They're making excuses like it's an art film or risky, whereas such films are not art films or risky by any standards. Sunil Dutt and Manoj Kumar did several such films in 60s!

Fact is Aamir needs conventional genres (action, romance, comedy) like anybody else or works best in social issue/patriotic films. He was not a box office magnet anyway before Lagaan.

Methinks stories of rifts between him and Reema were true. Probably if Reema had taken his suggestions the film would've turned out better.

But he has YRF's most successful franchise Dhoom 3 and Raju Hirani's PK now. Guaranteed box office juggernauts.

What's classy about ghosts? If the same film had starred some other actor everyone would have panned it. In fact Talaash is below Aamir's standards because he used to make realistic films earlier whereas this one had weird stuff like seance, talking to spirits etc.!

It can't stand in front of films Aamir did in past.

Anyway if BO doesn't matter and only quality does, then what will you say about Dhoom 3? Do flying cars and bikes constitute quality?

Aamir also gave blockbuster with TZP, a film with no heroine and no typical filmi songs.

Some apologists allege Talaash wouldn't have made this much if any other star was in it. So it goes on!

He is surely more dependent on content than other stars and his appeal is totally tied to his work. But in 90s, even with good content he didn't manage clean hits. It's surprising why an awesome film like JJWS wasn't a hit!

Well he's signed the safest projects for future so he's secure now. He's a respected actor-filmmaker but not much of a star power kind of guy.

Everyone can get a hit with the Dhoom Franchise 😆 even John Abraham made it,so that is not the real test for Aamir.
