It's just too much when topics get hijacked and stuff like who was responsible for a hit gets repeated. We're not here to discuss on who did SRK's stardom depend. But some deliberately picked one line and kept repeating fan-war type barbs with abusive language also.

Please discuss things in perspective. There's no need to always do fan wars!

LOL! I'll give more reasons which I believe are responsible for SRK hitting a plateau:

- Playing NRI in most films. Whenever he played those NRI/settled abroad type characters in 2000s his film got overshadowed in India. (K3G by Gadar, KHNH by KMG, KANK by all Hrithik, Aamir films). His most successful films have been those which were based in India - MHN,Veer Zaara, CDI, OSO and RNBDJ. The NRI/globetrotter guy films did not fail but they didn't connect with Indian audience much.

He might have built his global base with those films but got more and more distanced from Indian audience. All other stars who overtook him strive hard to cater to Indians and their sentiments. (Aamir even takes issues which affect Indians most!)

- Trying to step in Amitabh Bachchan's shoes. He was mauled for Don remake. Criticised for doing KBC. Others were smart enough to avoid trying to touch Bachchan projects whereas he made himself a target of barbs. Big B and his work is iconic and very much fresh in public memory. Indian public felt he was trying to position himself as Bachchan's successor already whereas others thought his acts were inferior to Bachchan's. (Believe it or not but Bachchan fanatics mostly hate SRK)

- Increasingly vulgar/suggestive content in his interviews, award show acts spoiled his image among family audiences who watch such shows on TV.

- There was excessive Baadshah baadshah hype about him whereas films were not exactly sweeping audience off their feet, this overdose irritated people. Indians appreciate modesty (even if it is fake) while SRK was all "I'm the best". The mantra was accepted in 90s when he was indeed the best. But not in 2000s. People started assuming he had too much ego.

- He tries too hard. His habit of getting other celebs to try and mouth his dialogues or teach them dance steps from his films without them even asking him to do so, comes across as if he's trying too hard to get attention or entertain people.

- IPL! It may have brought him more wealth and exposure. But KKR's issues all get blamed on him. Fallout with Ganguly created lot more ire towards him. Cricket gods are bigger than screen gods in India. Even the issue with Shiv Sena and Thackerays which spoiled things for him further, was a result of comments on Pakistani players.

- His pangas with other stars were okay but those with cricketers and powerful politicians just dented his image really bad. People assumed he'd become too big for his boots. He even commented on Amar Singh! What was the need to be such a loose canon?

(On other hand you had other stars becoming more cautious and actually patching up with people they had panga with. Like Aamir patched with Advani and BJP in 2007 totally distanced himself from 2006 controversy.)

- He's too much in news and for all the wrong reasons. A reason for watching a film on big screen is that you want to see your favorite star. But where's the novelty if star is on TV almost every day of the year? Already they've many good and bad notions about the overexposed star so his film gets scrutnised way more than others.

- Even if he does different films he markets them on theme of "LOVE"!! People expected Asoka to be about the great emperor and his reform but it just turned out to be a fabled love story. MNIK was different but he promoted it as return of SRK-Kajol jodi and did those Valentine special promotional tours as if MNIK is a love story. How will people think you're doing different stuff??!!

The same guy who started trend of marketing movies, failed to market movies according to their theme IMO.

CE should do better because it is based in India. But fact is SRK has totally lost connect with masses in India. The educated upper middle class prefers Aamir films. While masses swear by Salman, Ajay, Akshay. Global achievements are great but he needs to return to roots and regain lost connect. He's still popular (impact of old films doesn't go and recent ones are fine if not outstanding) as a celebrity but needs to be serious about SRK the movie star. The icon or businessman bit can take a bit of a backseat (he can continue the biz at any age but movie star has age limit till he can be a huge BO draw). Or else records or ATBBs or even acclaimed cinema seems hard to come by for him.

Do we really need such statements? "He doesn't need records, he lives in hearts"? Every star's fan does this instead of discussing! We're not bashing anyone, just discussing a particular aspect.

For a man who's the biggest star etc. it should have been a piece of cake to give an ATBB now! Nowadays it is easier due to inflation, expansion in business, rise of new multiplexes, age of hype.

Just wanted to discuss why such a popular star has not been able to give a business-redefining hit or ATBB whereas other less expected stars did it.
