So, I watched Swades and it just blows your mind away totally. The actors have done a good job, the character artistes were spot on. The lead actress, Gayatri Joshi was introduced in this movie and just disappeared from the arclights?

A. R. Rahman gave such excellent tunes for the movie. And every song had pretty much a message within it apart from the love songs.

The only thing is the length which like all Ashutosh Gowariker films is over 3 hours long. The plight of the country, the NRIs complaining about not wanting returning back to India, etc everything makes sense. The social situation was put well across.

My biggest question, is why doesn't such a well-made movie doesn't get the accolades it deserves? Or is it the lack of regular masala / romance within it? Why didn't Swades work?

I am sorry to ask, but what did you really find annoying in that song? That the song talked about social divide, that the picturisation of the song symbolised this divide and its irrevelance in society or that the lyrics talked sense??
Did you notice how the song flows on the screen? They start with a movie screen in between people of different social status and ends with the screen moved so that ppl stay together, on ONE side.

Or prolly we needed a zandu balm song there? 😉

Sensible movies do work now and then. Chak De! worked, so did 3 Idiots, the Munnabhai films, Taare Zameen Par, etc. Just this year we had movies that had both critical and BO success. Maybe Swades came at the wrong time or it was just too long or maybe it needed catchier music, maybe it was jarring for ppl to see SRK outside his normal routine, perhaps it needed better promotion, who knows. It should have worked.

What exactly sensible means here? Because this year only we had good amount of good and great films earning quite Rokda at BO and if u r taking about an emotionally connective film then Taare Zameen Par is perfect example!

but swades had its share of loop holes- the pace was horribly slow and it was very lengthy!

The definition of good movie is pretty subjective- for some it was one, in my list it wasn't! so i guess for me it got what it deserved!
