Is Salman Khan playing Mogambo in 'Mr India 2'?

INDIA's first sci-fi film is all set to make a comeback. And if grapevine is to be believed, the sequel to Shekhar Kapoor's 'Mr India' is going to get a bigger canvas, Zee News reports. Producer Boney Kapoor has been toying with the idea of a sequel of the cult film for a long time and had even approached Anurag Basu to direct the film. But source close to Boney states that he was always keen on having Shekhar Kapoor to direct the sequel. Speaking to a daily, a source revealed, "Shekhar had prior commitments and had said that he would be present as the creative consultant on the project."

But things seemed to have changed now as Shekhar has finally given his nod to direct the film. Although the filmmaker is cautious about confirming the news on record, but he admits that he is in talks with Boney. "It is too early to talk about this. But yes, Boney and I have been talking about it often," the report quotes the filmmaker as saying.

Meanwhile, Boney has managed a casting coup of sorts and has convinced reigning superstar Salman Khan to be a part of the ambitious project. Boney, who has always maintained that he will not make films without Salman, had earlier gone on record and said, "I don't think I can make a film without Salman. He is in 'Mr India 2' and also in the sequel to 'No Entry'."

Rumours have it that Salman might be playing his first ever negative role in the film. The film will also have the original lead pair – Anil Kapoor and Sridevi – playing important cameos. 'Mr India 2' is expected to hit theatres in 2014. At present, Boney is busy converting the first part into 3D, which will be released a few weeks before its sequel.

In the first part, Amrish Puri had immortalised the evil Mogambo, so much so that his famous line "Mogambo khush hua" has become a part of the popular culture now. daily times monitor

Shekhar Kapur to direct Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Salman Khan starrer Mr India 2

Anurag Basu, who was supposed to helm the project, makes way forMr India's original director

Producer Boney Kapoor who's contemplating to start his mega ambitious Mr India 2 for quite some time now has finally roped in the original director of the 1987 hit and the film's charismatic jodi Anil-Sridevi. And yes, also Salman Khan!

For some time now, there has been buzz about Boney Kapoor starting work on the sequel to his most successful film to date – but we recently discovered the real reason behind the delay. Ever since the idea of the sequel hit Boney, he was adamant to get Shekhar Kapur to direct it. But Kapur, due to some other commitments, offered his help as a creative consultant. We hear that Anurag Basu was also considered for the director's mantle, but Boney was in two minds because the sequel is a big responsibility.

Now, Boney has almost convinced Shekhar. The producer has also signed his chote bhaiya Anil and his successful actor wife Sridevi to play pivotal roles and not the lead pair.

If that's not enough, Anil's big brother has also roped in his good friend Salman Khan for a very significant role. If our loyal buddy the birdie is to be believed, all the speculation about Sallu playing the first negative role of his career is indeed true.

Reportedly, Mr India 2 will hit the screens in 2014, but ironically the makers are still not sure when the film will actually go on the floors. We just hope our loyal buddy brings us the news soon.

'Mr India' Sequel to Release in 2014

Fans of the 80's blockbuster "Mr India" will once again see former on-screen couple Anil Kapoor and Sridevi in an ambitious sequel produced by Boney Kapoor.

According to The Times of India (TOI), Anil Kapoor and Sridevi might not be playing the lead roles this time. Salman Khan is also said to be a part of the project and may play 'Mogambo' in the sequel.

Boney says that he cannot think of making a movie without Salman in it. "He is in Mr India 2 and also in the sequel to No Entry," he said.

The movie is slated to hit theatres in 2014 and the original "Mr India" will be available in 3D a few weeks ahead of the sequel's release.

Anurag Basu was initially asked to direct the project. Boney eventually roped on board Shekhar Kapoor - the original director of the film. "Well, it is too early to talk about this. But yes, Boney and I have been talking about it often," Shekhar told TOI.

Boney Kapoor's next sequel "No Entry Mein Entry", directed by Anees Bazmee, has Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta and Celina Jaitley among the leading ladies. Apparently, the movie has ten heroines and the search is on for the rest of the actresses. Apart from Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor and Fardeen Khan play double roles.

"The search for the remaining seven actresses continues. This isn't an easy cast to put together," TOI quoted a source close to the project as saying.

"Bipasha, Lara and Celina will be seen in very glamorous roles. They have all agreed to do the film," the source added.
