Vanessa Williams to record tracks for Delhi Safari

3D animated film Delhi Safari, has not only been dubbed in English, Spanish, French and Russian, but its songs have also been dubbed simultaneously. International artistes Vanessa Williams, John Fluker and Fred Tatasciore will be recording the English versions of the songs composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for the film in the US.

Moreover, the producers, Krayon Pictures, will be sharing 50 per cent of the royalty from the music with the composers. "We partnered with the producers when the film was being conceptualised; it's a way of thinking ahead," says Shankar Mahadevan.

Ehsaan Noorani says, "The revenue sharing deal has been integrated with the Copyright Law after the amendment was passed, and will be part of all music and creative contracts now. It will offer long-term benefits to producers, composer and lyricists."

Vanessa is the voice of Begum-Mother Leopard. Back to the Future (1985) fame Christopher Lloyd is also a part of the cast. Besides, Shankar Mahadevan's 10-year-old son Shivam has sung for the Hindi title track.

Directed by Nikhil Advani, the film revolves around five animals from Mumbai's Sanjay Gandhi National Park who go to Delhi to meet the Prime Minister with a petition against builders encroaching on their land.

Delhi Safari's special screening at the Ranthambore National Park for 1000 school kids

Delhi Safari's special screening at the Ranthambore National Park for 1000 school kids

Directed by Nikhil Advani and produced by Krayon Pictures, Delhi Safari is India's first world-class 3D stereoscopic animation feature film. It is an empowering yet fun-filled story of a motley group of 5 animal friends who embark on a wild journey from Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai to the Parliament House in Delhi to protect their right to safe homes. The film highlights the problems of deforestation and importance of protecting natural wildlife habitat. The award winning film is a complete family entertainer with world-class animation, Bollywood-style masti, memorable characters and a global message.

Krayon Pictures recently held a very cool event for the film in Ranthambore National Park. Delhi Safari was given a special screening at the park for 1000 school kids from local areas, who encounter the issues depicted in the film on a daily basis.

Talking about the event Rashmi Ahad Director Media & PR for Krayon Pictures told us, "There were more than 1000 kids and 400 adults, all from nearby villages. First they were wondering what is happening, they were all jumping down from canters that were sent to pick them up from schools and their homes. They saw our standee with gleaming eyes."

Ahad said that the as once the film started there was laughter, smiles, jumping and dancing during the first song, but then suddenly the buzz stopped when a pivotal sad scene occurred. "One small 7 year old boy came to us and asked 'woh baad mein zinda ho jayega na? sher ko nahi marte'."

Another incredible thing happened during the screening, "There was an amazing applause during Alex, the bird's dance. There were kids enacting "marela bharela". Suddenly we realised the kids sitting on the ground had reduced. Guess where they were…. on top of trees and a boundary wall. They were living the film." (And the writer and the readers go Awww)

When they asked the kids who there favorite character was, they answered Bajrangi, the bajrang bali.

She adds, "The smile on their faces was different when they understood "Boman bhaiya bhi hamare jaise sochte hein woh tiger se mile hein.…".

Ahad says the screening was not only a great success but that the children loved the film so much that they want everyone in their area to see this film. "Some children were dressed up as animals and were telling us how each child in Ranthambore wants to watch the film. They requested us to send CDs once Delhi Safari released and 45000 children would see what they face as a daily routine living closest to the forest as depicted in our film."

Adding, "I think the innocence, the honesty of saying, "this is the best film" by the grown ups and children from these villages was the best compliment for us."

Bollywood stars such as Boman Irani, Govinda, Akshaye Khanna, Urmila Matondkar, Suneil Shetty and Swini Khara have lent their voices for the Hindi version of the film, and the terrific trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has composed the music. Delhi Safari releases on October 19, 2012.

Actors who have dubbed for Nikhil Advani's animated film Delhi Safari, share their experience...

Voicing environmental concerns, Delhi Safari is about five animals who undertake a journey to the Parliament in Delhi. The animals are determined to fight for their home — a forest that is being destroyed to build skyscrapers.Bollywood actors Govinda, Swini Khara, Urmila Matondkar, Boman Irani and Prem Chopra tell us how it felt to be the voice of the animals in the movie.

Swini Khara — Yuvi, the cub This is the first time I have dubbed for a film, without facing the camera. I felt that it would help my career. While dubbing, I would drink hot water at regular intervals, to keep my voice soft. Yuvi is not the only character I lent my voice to. I dubbed for a swarm of bees too. I am very excited and have told all my friends to watch the film.

Urmila Matondkar — Begum, the leopard I had to convey emotions through my voice and I found that challenging. In front of the camera, we can use facial expressions and body language. But here, there was only one medium — my voice! When Nikhil approached me, he said that he wanted a voice that commanded respect and that he could not think of anybody but me. I took that as a compliment. I am proud to be associated with Delhi Safari. The workshops we had were the best part and also, we had to deliver dialogues with different expressions. I enjoyed it so much that whenever I used to bump into Boman at parties and events, I would say, 'Let's go back to the jungle'.

Govinda — Bajrangi, the monkey In real life, animals cannot voice their concern. Thus, we became their voice to put forward a message. I enjoyed dubbing for Bajrangi, who is a spoilt brat. But he goes through a transformation and becomes good. I enjoyed being a part of the workshops too.

Boman Irani — Bagga, the bear Nikhil wanted Bagga to be a loud Punjabi. But we decided against it. Bajrangi was loud and a brat. Alex ( Akshaye Khanna) was loud, too. I felt that it would not make sense for Bagga also to be loud. The velvety voice puts across a peaceful persona. We needed someone, who would bring about a truce among warring characters. And I enjoyed doing that. By the way, people call me teddy bear in real life, too.

Prem Chopra — Kaalia, the hyena Haven't I always played the malevolent character on screen? So, dubbing for the evil and greedy Kaalia, the hyena, came naturally and very easily to me. In fact, I even made a few suggestions and added a few edgy dialogues that Nikhil promptly incorporated in the film.

Delhi Safari, prooduced by Krayon Pictures, releases October 19.

In director Nikhil Advani's animated film Delhi Safari, the characters of Bajrangi, the Monkey(voiceover by Govinda), and Alex, the parrot (Akshaye Khanna), are as different as chalk and cheese. But, with their antics and funny one-liners, the duo literally brings down the house in the film.

If Bajrangi is a jungle brat, Alex is urbane and classy. And, while Alex arrogantly shows off his knowledge of the internet, Bajrangi proudly brandishes his pistol.

Both of them cannot stand each other, with Bajrangi even coming up with various means to do away with Alex. In fact, during one of Bajrangi's devious schemes, Alex loses his voice. But, their 'rivalry' always has a funny twist. Says Advani, "Bajrangi and Alex are actually on a mission. But, they get on each other's nerves till they realise the importance of being united. Once that happens, they change the face of the animal-human relationship in the film."

Delhi Safari, produced by Krayon Pictures, releases October 19.
