But your right, we desi log always make everything about religion. Go on youtube and listen to a Bollywood song, and in the comments section you well find hindu/muslims/ christians etc. fighting.

Totally.. sometimes I scroll down to see if someone has mentioned the movie name or something.. NO.. all I see is the religious fights and most absurd comments ever..

You're sadly mistaken. Hinduism doesn't preach that at all.

In totality, there are four paths of attaining liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth, namely, selfless work, self dissolving love, deep meditation and total discernment.

Where else have you heard that before? In a Sikh scripture perhaps.

.Heisenberg, I would love to read the Gita only to gain more knowledge but how about you read our Holy book the Guru Granth Sahib too, as I think that would clear up your misconception about there not being any difference between Hinduism and Sikhism.

Guess_Who, so it has 4 paths right? but in Sikhism there is only one way and that is by doing meditation on Gods name.
All in all, Hinduism and Sikhism are two religions that have more similarities than perhaps any other two religions.

Of course we do have a lot of similarities, hell my own sister-in-law was a Hindu so I know that! But you're not entirely right because Sikhism has as many similarities with Islam as Hinduism, but we're different from both of them.
And I just read you've already accepted that we have our own identity.. the only part I did not agree with was Sikhism being a part of Hinduism. When you have already agreed with the fact that we're different then why carry on with this discussion in the first place...

Peace.

Kangaroos stand on two feet, so do humans by you logic all humans and kangaroos are the same and so are all the other bipedal animals. Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Juddhism and Sikhism are all different ways of attaining God. The end goal is the same, but route is different.

But the route is the same.

Both are based on karma, dharma, samsara and moksha. And that's the only way to achieve salvation.

Sikhism is a more refined form of Hinduism where all the crap like Caste system, women inequality, Sati is thrown out but those are not the main principles of Hinduism.

I'm not arguing the distinctions but you can't argue that the major values are the same.

No there isn't. There's much more to salvation that meditation.

Anyways I'm done. I've never cared for religion anyways. It just makes for an interesting subject.

In Sikhism the true goal of Sikh is not to go to heaven but to go to Such Khand. In Sikhsim, if a person does good karma and dharma they will got to heaven etc, but the route to Such Khand is only through mediation. In sikhism, there are no four paths to achieving liberation like Hinduism there is only ONE.

As for the values, if look at the values at the inception of Hinduism and compare those to the value of Sikhism they are different. But in current state, lots of Hindu values have progressed (many hindu believe in no caste system know, no sati) but since Hindu value have become similar to Sikhism that doesn't mean the religions have become one the same. But I agree some value are the same, but there is similarities in everything in the world.

But okay let's leave that aside, the vows we take in Sikhism are completely different from the promises the Hindus make while marrying. And there are so many other differences between these two religions, like we do not believe in mukti. But yes it's okay if people think Sikhs are not different..because it doesn't matter how much we try to explain some people will believe what they want to believe. So yes let's leave it at that. I am happy atleast the followers of these two religions can live peacefully in one country, not only of these two.. followers of any religion live peacefully together in India.

Saat phera is not a universal ritual of all HIndus. I am a Hindu Kannadiga and I married a Hindu Punjabi last year. I was given a choice between a Kannadiga style wedding(South-Indian) or a Punjabi wedding that had Saat pheras as one of the main rituals. I chose the Kannada style wedding and we did not have saat pheras.
And Hinduism is not a just a polytheistic religion... I agree with what Heisenberg said. It varies.
What we follow is monotheistic and the worship is centered around one god. It rejects the authority of the vedas and the caste system.

Many customs, religious practices etc varies in Hindus from region to region and even within the region it varies.

You mean something like this :

Svarga is seen as a transitory place for righteous souls who have performed good deeds in their lives but are not yet ready to attain moksha, or elevation to Vaikunta, the abode of Lord Vishnu, considered to be the Supreme Abode (Rig Veda (1.22.20) states, O? tad vi??o? paramam padam sada pasyanti suraya?: "All the suras (i.e., the devas) look towards the feet of Lord Vishnu as the Supreme Abode"). The capital of Svarga is Amaravati and its entrance is guarded by Airavata. Svarga is presided over by Indra, the chief deva.

Why do I keep getting pulled into this debate. This time I'm seriously done.😊

The term moksha has similar meaning in both religions but in hinduism there are several ways of getting moksha depending on what school of hinduism you follow. In Sikhism there is only one way to achieve Such Khand. That is the distinction. Hinduism has many schools of thought on various topics suchs rituals, pheres, values, being monotheistic or polytheistic. But Sikhism there is only one school of thought which is the Holy Guru Granth Sahib. All Sikh rituals are the same for all sikhs, all weddings of sikhs are the same, For someone to be called a sikh he/she has to believe every word of the Holy Guru Granth Sahib Ji. But in Hinduism, that is not the case.
