BOCTAOE (But of course there are always exceptions).

I am talking on a larger scale though. I'd say those films are barely 1% of what Bollywood makes. And there is no good action adventure or fantasy fiction type movie in the list, nor any really sharp good comedy.

The very same reason why most people from regional film industries want to be in Bollywood... better movies (as in with budget, production values), bigger money involved, much bigger audience, nationwide popularity... etc.

With Bollywood remaking South Indian LOUD and trashy movies, I dont think importance is being given for any approval from Hollywood. (I'm a South Indian who watches trashy Tollywood stuff btw)

Bollywood's doing it's thing. When it gets a praise from Hollywood... it's obviously shocked and is on cloud nine, because, lets face it - the quality of Hollywood in every sense is super-high-er than Bollywood..
But, bollywood SURE isnt trying to get an approval - look at all the latest hits and recently made movies?
Now Hollywood copying French, Japanese copying Hollywood, Bollywood copying Hollywood, Tollywood copying Kollywood ---> is altogether a different story... everyone copies everyone, at the same time, every film industry DOES add it's flavour/creativity/innovation/culture to their respective film industries.

Another thing, why should Hollywood be extolled as the "movie capital of the world" and the "most mainstream"? Forgetting about Bollywood for a moment, why shouldn't/aren't movie industries from other countries, even European (barring British) ones, be accorded similar accolades? How is it that we know virtually NOTHING of quality cinema from other countries, their directors or actors except when they are recognized by H-wud? Surely other countries have great and 'mainstream' stuff too.

Because the language that comes with Hollywood is ENGLISH. English is the ONLY language that can be understandable all over the world?
How would you like it if all the theatres at your place showed Japanese/Korean/Arabic/Russian???

Sayali_babes, did you take a good look at your profile picture 😉 before you started this rant
about the "west" their movies and their appreciation for this art form which is far more superior.
Guess not.
That said, why compare the two industry which are vastly different. Hollywood makes different
genre of movies for the masses to enjoy and chose from, Bollywood on the other hand, only
knows to make one type of movie with the same handful of actors and actresses week in,
week out.

@ANGEL LIKE DEVIL: Precisely. Tis all in the language. Which is why Hollywood is so popular. Does NOT, then, mean that its the best or the be-all of the cinematic universe.

Notice India? Yeah, that's right, got to notice what? The already done-to-death 'Slum-shit-poverty' tripe that is India's crowning glory in the West (sic). How come an Indian-made classic never got them to 'notice' India?

Ofcourse, I know several people who got interested in India, Indian culture, and Indian movies AFTER Slumdog, they loved the music, they started checking out more of A R Rahman's work... all you guys ever whine about is poverty.. so what?.. poverty is real, the slums are real, the incidents that were shown in the movie do happen... why whinge and cry about it just because someone showed the side of India that mainstream Bollywood is ashamed of?

Indians should be proud that a film that exclusively features Indian talent, apart from Dev Patel, gained such global recognition, and accept that "saare jahan se acha Hindustan hamaraa" is not true.
