Why so much importance on approval from the West?

Bollywood, unlike its other Asian on European counterparts, is hardly feted or recognized by the West (read Hollywood). More often than not, its movies are dismissed as "kitschy song-and-dance tripe". And it angers us suitably, riling us to an extent where we try and pick out instances where an Indian star has been even "looked at" by a Holly biggie. Every Indian actor goes over-the-moon if a Holly actor/director praises them, and then there's the Oscar gripe where we highlight even a officially non-Indian movie like "SM" (that took the piss out of India in every way possible). When it clinches the Oscar, we go hanging our tongues to dry like pups in Summer. Why this undue importance to "Western" recognition when Bollywood is very popular in Asia and Africa? Other film industries don't.

Only the West knows how to appreciate the best things in life. Like Aishwarya. We heathen Indians did not realize how great she is that she isnt anoxeric till the Western media pointed it out.

We don't exactly make the best movies as far as everyday commercial movies are concerned, but Hollywood ain't no God in that respect. And we have original classics and parallel movies like any other industry. Eg., the recent Kahani, Pan Singh Tomar. And the oldies like Sholay, Pyasa, Silsila, Kabhie kabhie, Mother India. Bandit Queen, Chak de India, Black, Hazaron Khwaishen Aisi, Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par etc weren't no copy-paste stuff.

That's exactly what I've issues with. Why all the prestige labels attached only to "Hollywood"? Why not any others, such as the Japanese, Iranian, Hungarian or Brazilian film industries?

may be their dream of earning in $$$ and having the life style of hollywood stars is so overpowering . Its just not filmy world most of us are obssessed with anything related to the word foreign

but then babes these so called 'stars' earn in indian currency but have to spend discreetly on all their surgeries & shopping in dollars & euros , it must be pinching their pockets
