Talking about this tribute, Housefull director Sajid Khan says, "Housefull is my humble homage to these directors. The films they"ve made have redefined Indian Cinema with 1 word ' entertainment. They made some of the most entertaining films of the 70s and the 80s."

😆

poor directors must be turning in their graves!😆

Nobody in their right minds would expect a kahaani like plot in Housefull 2. Infact, most don't even expect a plot. I don't know about H2 as i have not seen it, but generally speaking for 'mindless entertainers', how much mindless do they expect to get ??? They hit a new low with every film.

you know films like Hera Pheri, old golmaal, Andaz apna apna are also also pretty mindless Plot-wise but they were entertaining, quirky and genuinely funny. But the SHIT sajid khan makes is NOTHING. I never cracked a smile in housefull. How contrived, idiotic and stupid will they get saying, " we din't promise a plot, we are just entertaining"... Entertaining, my foot. I don't know what has happened to the audience. Their standard is just falling and falling.

And Taran should just STFU with his GYAAANNN!!!!

P.S: I need not mention this is my humble opinion. And yes, I do look down upon films Taran mentioned in his article.🤢

From this thread its obvious that no one minds watching a mindless but entertaining film. What I have a problem with is near worship of the masters of this genre we have been seeing the last couple of years. Taran Adarsh's article is once again an attempt at the similar worship of a new star-Sajid Khan.
Another problem with mindless fare is public taste is very fickle. The makers never know where they will land up next. Like Subhas Ghai was once the master of mindless fare. Now everyone would run miles away from his films.

you make an interesting point!
though, i would question the 'worship' syndrome! aajkal intellectuals ka zamaana hai ala aamir khan..
looking at the worst movies list and the overall disdain towards such comedies, where exactly is the worship for such genre? it's only the numbers at the box office that proves them otherwise!
you're right about the fickle part... but how do you expect quality cinema when general public (even on this board) is more focused about commercial actresses looking like barbie dolls?

This board is not a right measure of public opinion in general. I thought 'oh no!' when Houseful's sequel was announced. But I was surprised to see HF2 was a looked forward to film not only among the masses but also among educated people who use social media like twitter, facebook.
Right now there is a worship syndrome prevailing for Salman in Bollywood and many South stars. When mindless films like Ready become blockbusters people find it tough to attribute any reasons for its success except star power. Hence the worship syndrome. Even if we as an audience dont worship stars...the industry which deals with stars does and thats enough for them.
But the problem with such a worship syndrome is that though one star is created...other stars like the director is ignored. For instance how many can tell the name of the director of Ready or Bodyguard. Contrast to the awareness levels about Sujoy Ghosh right now after one content based film.

I appreciate the intentions of mindless movies. They're meant for you to unwind with, after a rough patch, tiring day, or if you've just been feeling like shit lately.

But when these movies cross the line and get offensive, its a no go. Take Housefull 2 for example. They made fun of heart patients, dark-skinned people, dwarfs, and countless other shit...

don't they think people with heart conditions, dark skin, genetic disorders watch their movies as well? What do they get out of making them feel like shit

how about you?

Haven't watched Housefull2 but caught Housefull1 the other day. Some scenes were too ridiculous...like Boman/Akshay/Ritesh slapping each other stupidly. 🤢
But yeah, I enjoy this genre too. Who doesn't like to laugh? 'No entry' was hilarious!!

I personally dislike Sajid khan movies , they r so tasteless 🤢 and disliked Ready while i loved Dabbang and love Golmal series and Priyadarshan movies

so disliking one or two particular movies does not mean the generalizing whole genre ...so I feel overall ppl love mindless genre

Sajid khan thinks too high of himself ...in one of the interview he said Today's gen doesn't know Guru Dutt 😕

watched making of Housefull 2 ... he was just laughing during the whole making ... before one scene he said he is gonna shot one of the best comedy scene ever , it'll be in top 5 best comedy scenes ... i was like Really ?????
and he thinks he is as good as Hrishikesh Mukherjee , Basu chetterjee, priyadarshan 😕
