_

1)End suspense...I knew it from the start that Ms Bagchi wasnt pregnant but pretending.
2)Pace
3)Screenplay wasnt effective.
4)Amitabh Bachchan singing ekla chalo re. I cant force myself to like it.
I am not a fan of his singing.

Kahaani's climax sounds a lot like Taking Lives.

Yay...thanks Ritsie!

While the overall story seems to have worked for people, the screenplay was very obvious! To start with...the scripts of such movies typically fall in to a couple of categories

1. Fight Club/Karthik Calling Karthik

2. Flight Plan

3. Sixth Sense

This genre being one of my favorites, I was guessing the plot well before I actually saw the movie. I was sure Sujoy would not do 1 or 2...done to death. Every fan of this genre would have seen the inspiration a mile away. So I automatically assumed that he would device the plot similar to 3.

Given that the poster featured the protagonist's pregnancy so prominently, the foremost theory I was working with already was that she was not pregnant...that would be the twist!

Will write more...😆

Coming to the movie and screenplay...

One of the fundamental issues I had was the fact that a large part of the setup in the dialogs throughout the movie clearly implied that what you were seeing was one Kahaani only...there was another Kahaani behind it! So for viewers like me, it was an invitation to look beyond the obvious to connect the clues right away. That said, maybe viewers like me were in a minority as so many seem to have been caught by surprise with the ending.

Moving on...starting the movie with the terrorist attack...am on the fence about whether that was a good idea as it immediately signaled to me that the IB officer who died and the terrorist were important to the story.

So VB then lands in Calcutta and files the case and shares the picture of her husband. That is where the first FB of her husband is shown...with his face being seen. All good so far. The FB scenes ended with the camera on VB's face...implying it was her thoughts. A couple of scenes later, she is alone in her room and remembers her husband and has another flashback. This time, they did not show his face plus her grief was more consistent with somebody dead and not presumed alive. At this point of the movie, I was almost certain that the husband was dead and she was hunting for the guy in the picture...i.e...he was not her husband.

Yup...not done...still got more to say! 😆

**BIG SPOILERS AHEAD! Stay away ten miles...the area is spoiled red!

I saw the movie...the trailers were amazing. I just showed it to one of my cousins and I remember how we were sorta trying to figure out what could be the mystery...I said that the husband doesn't exist...then my cousin went, 'well, duh, that lady is pregnant' and I smiled slyly.

Overall, the film never really had a dull moment...I was engaged throughout. And, I found Rana and Vidya's interactions sooo cutee! Especially that moment when he just grabs her hand to lead her when they go to find the murti-maker (police informer). And that one moment, after she is pissed at Rana and Khan for mis-using her for their benefit, she does some search on the computer and sort of jerks away when Rana comes to her...that was impactful with the right emotions.

Okay, now the tricky parts:
At the climax, when she finally comes face to face with that criminal guy and he shoots her...I freakin' screamed at the screen in the middle of the night...I was like "nooo, she's pregnant...don't kill the baby!!" and I was shocked when she takes out the bag kinda thing... it was all still good till she decided to narrate her own story...I mean, it's not like that wasn't a good kahaani behind this Kahaani...but, you know what, when she shoots the criminal, I actually wanted her to be like a bigger boss of some kind who was in a position above him and the master mind behind everything for her own gains...it would've been cool to see her as a badass! The ending had too many explanation...like there WAS a need to explain cuz that part of her going through the same experience with her real hubby was unknown. It almost looked cheesy.

But, after saying all that, I'll say it was definitely a worthwhile watch! Something new and interesting! Just what bwood needed right now...

Ehh...that was more like a review...heh.

I love Fight Club too Nikkie. Did not get the FC vibe from the trailer...what I meant was that this sort of movie plays out in certain ways...either the missing husband was her imagination (kinda like FC & KCK) or he was real but really missing (Fight Plan) or there was going to be an unexpected twist...like Sixth Sense. All these were my thoughts from before I watched the movie...I know I know...who does that right? 😆
