pfft if Devdas can be included in the list..then even the 90's list will be really long..in the movies of 90's...actresses had a parallel role to heroes if not more!

So the people arguing for 90s having better scope for actresses, please do make me a longer list than this.

Do NOT include the typical Yash Raj roles that Kajol did coz then I can make this list even longer by adding all the Yash Raj roles that Rani did.

All the following films contain roles where the actress was not just ON part with the actor, but had a more dynamic role.

why the hell is Kaminey/Jab we met/Tannu wed mannu/Band Baaja Baraat/Yuva on the list?? really?? if Jab we met can be included then movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and DDLJ should be also included in the 90's list!

yeah she probably only saw movies of her beau playing second fiddle to someone, or movies of her then underage sister, which she's probably comparing to 30 plus actresses work of today.

Why shouldnt Kaminey be on that list?

Priyanka's role in Kaminey was one of the strongest female characteres in bollywood. She had AMPLE scope to perform and won awards.

Beats 95% of the roles offered to women in the 90s.

And sure, put DDLJ and KKHH on that list. Those were strong, but the list better be longer than the one for actresses.

Tanu Weds Manu, JWM, BBB all had STRONG female characters that overshadowed the males and stood out.

The characters were unconventional, dynamic, strong and independent, and not dependent on teh males for any reason.

Ahhh, what do you know...Kareena had a point after all 😛

for me, gr8 female characters are all abt being multidimensional...

most of the 90s films were predominantly YRF/Kjo/Bhajatiya fluff or sunil/akki/sunny deol action masalas...none of which gave gr8 roles for the heroines...too conventional and uni-dimensional...either they were miss goody two shoes tyaag ki devi, or they were the vamp...

there was no middle ground...no grey characters with both good and bad qualities...no well-rounded layered roles...

Like Rosy played by waheeda reheman in Guide

Or paro and chanda in Dev D

or Sweety in Kaminey

or zubeidaa

or shabana azmi/smita patil in many of their films like sparsh, arth etc

or Kangana/priyanka in Fashion

or silk in TDP

or suzzana in SKM

or Chameli/Kaurvaki in Ashoka

or Tabu in Astitva/Maqbool

Well well, turns out that when you automatically dont dismiss Kareena because she's Kareena and actually think about what she says, she has a point.
