They didn't just ridicule the actresses of the 90s, but CINEMA from the 90. If anyone goes back and hears what was ridiculed, it was 90s' cinema.

& no it's not just about the actresses because if it was JUST about the actresses than Kareena wouldn't have constantly brought up Dev D which was more or less about Abhay Deol. So, they begin by mentioning the quality of cinema..& then bring up Vidya and whatnot.

I don't care if post 2000 the scripts got better..times change, things change. If back in the 90s, anyone tried pulling a Corporate or a Fashion - it may not have worked because bollywood CINEMA was not of that kind during that decade. Go further back to the 80s, you'll come across a different kind of cinema and we can go on & on about how different decades stand out in terms of work.

Today, if a Bodyguard worked then its because its what the typical bollywood viewer likes watching. & yes that has everything to do with 90s cinema. Lets not even get started about the quality of acting back then..what could have been said is that yes, in the 90s bollywood didn't have that many dimensions in terms of SCRIPTS, however, in terms of class, acting, potential..it wasn't any less than the current times if not more.

Lajja is post 2000 😆 ANd hwo are any of the bolded choices examples of exemplanary female characters?
If those are exemplenary, I might as well also add
Preity in KHNH, and half a dozen ohter films post 2000, like Veer Zaara, Salaam Namaste
Rani in Hum Tum, Chalte Chalte, and all her Yash Raj films
Aishwarya in all her films
Kareena in Aitraaz, Priyanka in Aitraaz, and the list will just be longer.
Just compare what you listed to the films I listed and I think its pretty obvious that Kareena had a point.
😆

You both agree with a 32 year old clown with no brains. 😛

the clown contradicted herself later by saying that today's cinema is better for women😆 I personally think it is about talent! if the actresses are talented enough they will get substantial roles! if not they will play the second fiddle! and every era has actresses that do substantial roles, and some that just are there to play second fiddles

You didnt even watch the video so how do you know she contradicts herself?

If you actually watch it, she says times are changing, we're getting there, we're much bettter off than we were in teh 90s, BUT then comes a BG, Ra.One, and Ready and you know that we're still not there yet.

Oh man. My intention was not start a 90's vs 2000's fight with my comment *headdesk*
DG- Perhaps, yes the 90's actresses didn't have that kind of scope to prove their versatility like today's heroines do. But I don't think their roles were nonexistant either, you know? Manisha Koirala and Tabu's films definitely had a LOT of scope for them.
TWM, BBB, and MBKD may have been strong kickass roles that women in BW are getting now, but then the likes of DDLJ, KKHH, Raja Hindustani, Rangeela, Lamhe, Chalbaaz, etc were on par also in the 90's..and dare I say it, performed better. I personally am not fond of Kangana's performance in TWM. She was too OTT for me. And MBKD's 5 mins were torture enough 😆 Anushka though was awesome in BBB..
Even if today's heroines are getting "good roles," it's not like a lot of them are doing justice to them..like Sonam, Deepika, Katrina. Put any 90's actress in their roles, and they will deliver a performance at least 10 times better. So in a way, they shone even in their roles with less scope..
Actually now that I'm thinking about 90's films..it wasn't ALL that horrible for actresses.
And..I certainly don't remember any top actress having a 15 minute role like Katrina does in all her films. They had ample screen time.

then why was she part of these movies???🤢 90's was a romantic era, so women had parallel leads unlike today's cinema

Starstruck, since you've actually seen the video, I would like to debate with you. You have valid points.

When she's talking about the 90s cinema, my interpretation is that its all in context of women and the roles they were offered, since that's the topic of her speech/debate.

omg how could I forget Tabu!! and her fabulous performance in Maachis and many other movies! such an idiot I am!
