I don't agree with her not having a competition btw. She managed to do well and make a mark for herself with Parineeta, Munna Bhai when Rani was at her peak, then with Paa and Ishqiya, competing against the likes of Kareena, Priyanka, Kajol, Ash.

But I agree she is slightly overrated. I haven't seen TDP yet, but from what I've seen, her acting almost always seemed typecast and one-note (okay, BB could be an exception). IMO, she doesn't have the same range as Kareena or even Priyanka, though she is far more consistent. But she sure is one of the bests we have today!

Anyway, back to the topic:

I think Kangana's failure is due to the lack of connection and versatility. She's good, but she's pretty much played the 'miserable gal' in every movie she's done, didn't she? And now she's banking her on some d-grade films from what I heard. She needs to stay away from the psycho roles and one-dimensional cardboard-cutout roles, and do something different for once.

Other than Munna Bhai where she did play the aforementioned flower pot, others are average to small successes. I have no problem with Vidya hogging the lime-light. She's very good at what she does. Commercial or non-commercial. I have a problem with people calling her versatile. She's obviously not and its been proven many times when she has tried to do something different.

I also disagree with her being any serious competition to Kareena, Kat and PC. She just can't play the roles they can play. She can't play a college girl in Bodyguard, or do a Kat in MBKD or PC in Don 2.

She's mono-tone and plays the sari clad victim or a seductress well but thats where it ends. I don't see her ever reaching the top due to her lack of versatility and her lack of big banners.

^ I think that's the strength of Vidya..Personally, she is overrated to me, however, she knows her strengths and weaknesses and makes the choice according to it. She knows that she can't play those flowerpot roles and college going roles, so she sticks with what she is good at and performs within that zone.

I think most would agree (and I have repeatedly said this) that she lacks the range of Kareena and Priyanka. But I don't agree with her not being versatile at all. Ishqiya and TDP was a departure from her usual sati-savitri tear-shedding roles (Parineeta, Paa), and Bhool Bhulaiya was different (how many B-wood actress has done that?) too.

Vidya WAS a serious competitor to Kareena and Priyanka in 2009, Kajol & Ash in 2010, and (and she came out the winner most of the times). And I am talking about awards and critical acclaim. She can't compete with Katrina obviously.

Rest - yes she can't play flowerpot. Even her most ardent fan would agree. 😆

I only liked Vidya in No one killed Jessica. Then again, I have not seen any of her other "acclaimed" films. She bores me, there's nothing interesting about her to hold my attention. Same with Emran Hashmi, people sing his praises 24/7 but I could never bring myself to watch his films. Still haven't. Sometimes, you just don't connect.

Almost everything has already been discussed..

in regards to vidya, its obvious that she knows wht works for her. just like salman, SRK or katrina... and she isnt getting typecasted but rather known for her off beat films. but then again, by doing two more movis with Emraan Hashmi, isnt she doing what everybody else is already doing?
