I think since he does very few movies, he doesn't has to attend a lot of media events like movie promotions, song release etc. .. hence, he comes to notice very infrequently .. he is a fine actor but yeah in terms of all the adjectives (perfectionist etc.) added to him, that's definitely overrated ..
I agree that he doesn't gives the credit where it is due and hence, gets extra accolodes for someone else's work .. since lagaan he has started to keep script as the main deal breaker for him to sign a movie .. which is a good thing .. atleast he doesn't does all movies that can pass on as remakes of each other (a la Salman Khan) .. I love SRK so much but seriously sometimes even I get tired of his romantic movies .. but I liked that he did RaOne and Don last year which were not like his other usual movies .. even though I am not a huge Aamir Khan fan but I have to say that some of his movie choices are good but then again that is just the choice of the movie .. script and direction is not his .. so just in terms of being an actor though he is good but media/people actually overrate him
