One rather shallow reason could be Sushmita's height. She was a lot taller than leading heroes of her day. Directors pairing them with petite women and she lost out on roles.

She wanted to live life in her own terms and she sucked up to the wrong people at the wrong time...

I tend to agree with the person who said she comes across as a person who follows her heart more than her head. Also, she is a lot more honest than her contemporaries. She comes across as a on-our-face strong woman. And in B-town, where male egos are more fragile than porcelain balanced on a rickety wooden beam, it must've been tough to make good professional moves. She didn't look particularly interested in being part of the rat race. She strode to her own drum & that's good for her! Now if only she would'nt pretend that her daughters are adopted 🥱

I used to really look up to her- she was one of the very few women in those days who followed their heart, did what they thought would make them happy. Confident without being arrogant, charming. I used to love reading her interviews, she was very intelligent.

But I think somewhere down the line she herseld realised that she could never been in the Bollywood game and lost out.

But she will always remain one of my fav models.

Sushmita is beautiful, she won miss universe of course and a good actress but for some reason, I wasn't connect to her as a fan and I didn't care about her. For someone like Aish, I connected with her as a fan because she was a great classical dancer and I used to watch her movies again and again
so I think that's what went missing...something like a connection with the audience

That's not an assumption.. she herself confessed to it.

Sushmita Sen confessed that she could not work as hard as Aishwarya Rai. She said," People who feel we are rivals need to realise that Ash has lived life on her terms, but that's who she is. I've seen Ash working very hard on the film sets, I can't do it.

I don't work more than 8 hours a day. At times, people get angry with me because of this, but I can't work more than that. For 8 hours, when I'm working, I won't trouble you. I would even skip my lunch and work constantly, but thereafter I want to go home, switch off my phone…then I don't exist."

that's why i consider Sush as more graceful ... neva heard any bollywood actresses raving about another one like this...

if sush herself says such things tht doesnt mean tht she is not hardworking...she is just underplaying herself...like i said her performances in movies esp in CHINGAARI...are hell amazing...they are really powerful which requires the power, zeal and strong energy of a woman which obviously Ashwariya doesnt have

I didn't say she is not hardworking. I just said she is not hardworking enough to be there. She was not focussed. She had other priorities. It's not like she ever aimed to be No.1 and failed. She didn't even appear interested to do great work.

Yes, she was good in Chingaari and she is the only possible reason to watch such a poorly made movie. But Aishwarya has essayed tougher and more challenging characters and also offered a variety. As I said, Ash was more focussed to do good work whereas Sush wasn't.
