We are not on talking terms: Esha Deol

Esha Deol was in news recently not for starring in any super hit film but for slapping her co-star Amrita Rao during a shoot in Bangkok. Daughter of star couple Hema Malini and Dharmendra, Esha's career is yet to take off. TWF correspondent Vickey Lalwani meets the starlet to find out more about her new films and a change in address.

Q: What's happening to the film your mother (Hema Malini) wanted to make with you?
A: We are still in the scripting stage. My mom is very finicky. But it will certainly happen.

Q: Your sister Aahna surprised everybody by doing a commercial. What are her future plans?
A: You may see her in some more ads because she'll definitely get more offers when this ad (Kent Water Purifier) comes out, but she is clear that she doesn't want to act. She is planning to become a director.

Q: When are you shifting to your Goregaon bungalow?
A: By end of February, we'll be out of our Juhu bungalow. The whole bungalow will be broken down, and we are planning a bigger place of four or five storeys. It won't be the usual type of building where other people start coming in. It will be exclusively for us(pauses).

Q: Go on...
A: My mom takes the penthouse. My sister gets the third floor, while I take the second. Premnath Builders has been assigned to do the job and I think it will take two years at least.

Q: Who took this decision?
A: My mom began to say about it, but in the end, it was a collective decision. This monsoon was terrible. I don't think our place can stand one more monsoon now.

Q: Will you miss Juhu?
A: Definitely. But I am quite kicked about staying in Goregaon too. My room in Goregaon has been done very well and it's like my dream room. In the next two or three days, it will be ready. Plus we have a huge lawn and it's going to be quite chilled out there.

Q: How did you feel when you were not selected for Dhoom 2?
A: I did feel a little bad, but it's okay. Dhoom was the turning point in my career and I thank Aditya Chopra for that. And not being in Dhoom 2 does not mean that's the end of my story with Yash Raj Films.

Q: You didn't call them up and have a talk?
A: No. I am not the one who calls up and says 'Please. Why?' And I guess they want to do it in a slightly different style.

Q: After your slap incident with Amrita Rao at Bangkok, do you feel awkward to act with her in "Pyare Mohan"?
A: I must thank Amrita for helping me improve my acting skill. If she hadn't misbehaved with me that day, I would have never been able to act the way I have acted in "Pyare Mohan" with her.

Q: That does not answer my question. Are you on talking terms with her?
No. We are working together in a professional capacity and we only interact when we need to execute a particular scene together in the film.

Q: Does this animosity create any problem in the production of the film?
A: I don't think so. We are both professionals, and co-operative. Whatever happened between us was personal and we don't drag personal relationships to work.

Q: Tell us about your forthcoming films?
A: I have "Pyare Mohan", "Ankahee", "Honeymoon". "Pyare Mohan" has been a joy ride but yet full of emotions. I play Preeti, a wannabe pop-star who falls in love with Pyare (Fardeen Khan), a blind guy. Ankahee is special. I am playing Kavya, a slightly complexed girl. I have never done anything like that before. I think Vikram has brought out the potential in me which wasn't extracted before. "Honeymoon" is Meghna Gulzar's film, which dwells on a married couple's problems they face on their honeymoon.

Q: Coming back to your Juhu residence. By the time it's ready, you may have married and be staying in altogether a new place?
A: Yes. Who knows! (laughs)
