Your reason for liking Devdas is right here "The way that Paro and Dev's childhood love and friendship was portrayed was so beautiful." Replace SRK with Anu Kapoor and you still would have liked it 😉.
ANy way, SRK in Devdas was like a Parkinson's patient.. quivering eyes, trembling eyes, bobbing head, shaking hands.. all the muscles in his body got a good work-out during the shooting of this movie. This is not HAM.. it's a full suckling pig.

Where were you? and you come out of your hiding, only to say this? 😲 Sooo not funny 😆😆

Welcome back 🤗

Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay would have shuddered in his grave, had he seen SLB's version of Devdas!
Kiron Kher gave me nightmares with her 'Parooo' for days afterwards!!!
And I wasn't the only one in the theatre who was rooting for SRK's Devdas to die as soon as possible!😆
The only thing worth remembering in the film was Vijendra Ghatge, who played Paro's husband!
PS: Anyone who liked SLB's Devdas should watch the original one with Dilip Kumar and the gorgeous Suchitra Sen...

Oh yes, Poppy. The original Dilip Kumar one was sooo hauntingly beautiful. Especially, the way he said "Chaand mein bhi daag hota hai".. Sublime.
The modern Devdas was like a "Jatra' (Village road shows in Bengal with garish costumes, over-the-top acting, exaggerated dialogues). Sarat Chandra must have been turning in his grave.

Dillip Kumar was THE Devdas..period... Dilip Kumar, Suchitra Sen and Vyjanthimala were perfectly cast and they didnt seem to be carrying around the weight of their stardom while they perfromed even though they were very big stars... SLB butchered the essence and simplicity of the story by adding gold and grandeur to the whole tale... and did I mention the stars??
Dev D was a good modern adaption of Devdas, IMO

Relda,
Firstly, its very nice to see you back again!😃
Second, its interesting to note that most of Sarat Chandra's works have been interpreted more or less beautifully on Celluloid...I suppose it is because most of his work has been made into Bengali Films...but even Saif and Vidya's Parineeta was a wonderful adaptation!
Its ironical, that his most celebrated work, Devdas, was presented by SLB in a style that it ripped the very essence of the story!
The original one was truly very haunting...I suppose it had a lot to do with the actors and the fact that the story was kept as true to the original as possible!
PS: Hiya Tally! Oh yes! Dev D was an excellent modern-day interpretation of the story...much closer to the original work by the author than SLB's Devdas! Something like Vishal's Omkara, which was once again a marvellous adaptation of Othello!

Dilip Kumar's version (I wouldn't call it "the original one" since there were several others made before it) was definitely 10 times better than SLB's version. I also liked the Bangla one with Uttam, Soumitra, Suchitra and Supriya.
