Oh yes, Poppy. The original Dilip Kumar one was sooo hauntingly beautiful. Especially, the way he said "Chaand mein bhi daag hota hai".. Sublime.
The modern Devdas was like a "Jatra' (Village road shows in Bengal with garish costumes, over-the-top acting, exaggerated dialogues). Sarat Chandra must have been turning in his grave.
Relda,
Firstly, its very nice to see you back again!😃
Second, its interesting to note that most of Sarat Chandra's works have been interpreted more or less beautifully on Celluloid...I suppose it is because most of his work has been made into Bengali Films...but even Saif and Vidya's Parineeta was a wonderful adaptation!
Its ironical, that his most celebrated work, Devdas, was presented by SLB in a style that it ripped the very essence of the story!
The original one was truly very haunting...I suppose it had a lot to do with the actors and the fact that the story was kept as true to the original as possible!
PS: Hiya Tally! Oh yes! Dev D was an excellent modern-day interpretation of the story...much closer to the original work by the author than SLB's Devdas! Something like Vishal's Omkara, which was once again a marvellous adaptation of Othello!
